Very true. I got the cuffs and a 6 hour tour of Revere and Cambridge jails 'cause of my mouth' back in the day. Back then I was much cooler. Now, Im not so cool to mouth off to the police.

Exactly how is their life and wellbeing *not* entirely in your hands, your responsibility? Short of the passenger freaking out and somehow causing a crash - what happens to them is one hundred percent the responsibility of the rider.
And as we know, sometimes incidents occur that are hard or impossible to avoid - other cars, deer, mechanical failures - so its really the responsibility of the rider to do the best he or she possibly can to safeguard a passenger.
You have a choice with your actions as the rider. The passenger has to put their trust in you implicitly. The least you can do is repay it by giving them the best possible chances.

Re: speeding ticket in Weymouth
I got clocked doing 78 in a 50 a while ago, I'm 20 and I had full gear on. I knew I was in the wrong right when I went past the cop, so I pretty much just pulled over right away, got all my documents out and waited. it was probably 80*-85* out that day, but I was there in full gear, helmet, gloves, pants, jacket and boots. I shot the shit with the cop for like 10 minutes, and he knocked my ticket down to 65 in a 50. I also wasnt inspected at the time, but he didn't even mention it.

Re: speeding ticket in Weymouth
Officer did right in my book.
Be happy you "only" got the 3 tickets you earned as I'm sure there's plenty more legal issues associated with your machine.
Carry on.

Luckily in Vermont there is no statute for recording conversations, although the courts have ruled on both sides in separate cases.

aren't the dash cams in cruisers wired with audio? (curious.. don't know).... honestly I just assume each stop is recorded a&v now.... but last time i got stopped (about a month ago) nothing was said about it. or does this law not apply to traffic stops?

Re: speeding ticket in Weymouth
Maybe if you wear your gear and tell her how important it is; and that it would mean a lot to you if she wore gear she would... I dont know just a guess.. and theres no excuse for not having an inspection sticker already you've had the bike for 2 weeks

and as far as MY attitude. i stood next to my bike silently the entire time while the first cop (on the bike) wrote my ticket. he was already more than halfway through writing it when the other douche cop called my girlfreinds disposable and critisized what i was wearing...thats when i got angry.
and people on here who know me beyond where it says im 19 know thats ive been riding for almost 3 years now and ride responsibly (usually) and wear the right gear. i figured since we were going to the beach and it was 90 plus out it would be more comfortable to wear what i wore, and usually she wears better clothing but she didnt want to be on the beach in jeans and didnt have a change of clothes with her so...i can tell you, my politeness would not have gotten me off the ticket. it was a holeish cop + me and girlfriend with little gear + yellow suzuki = ticket. like i said, i only got mouthy after the 2nd cop came and the ticket was already written

Re: speeding ticket in Weymouth
Police cars that have recording devices are usaully turned on with the lights and the recording should not be able to be accessed by the officer...
Audio and vidio in public ??
I'm sure all the poperotzi (photoghraphers) , private detectives and your local peeping tom's know the laws better ,
You can say i am recording this for MY saftey and yours,,
I think thats how it goes..
Besides how many traffic stops make it to federall court where they need a rulling on what evidence to let in..I don't think Rodney King had any problems.
But when your in public your fair game..no one like to be recorded in these situations. it's in fear of something comming back to haunt you. Intimidation.
Phone conversations that are intended in legal maters ,like taking statements.. have to be notified and ok'ed with no interuptions like call waiting or puttting on hold..
permision is needed for filming for the purpose of making money

I was an idiot and just thought since we were going to the beach and it was 90 plus out it would be more comfortable to wear what I wore, I was wrong as I should wear all the gear all the time and make my Girlfriend or any passenger do the same as it is the mature and intelligent thing to do. She does uysually wear better clothing but she didnt want to be on the beach in jeans and didnt have a change of clothes with her so... we shouldn't have went to the beach on my bike.
I can tell you, I do not feel my politeness would have gotten me off the ticket. The officer seemed in a bad mood. Maybe he thought he was dealing with a punk kid and maybe I could have done things differently to make the whole situation come out better. I learned a valuable lesson and will be smarter in the future so that me and girlfriend with little gear + yellow suzuki = ticket. I honestly don't think my getting mouthy had anything to do with my getting a ticket. Stupid? Yes but who here wouldn't have been a little peeved at the officer for insulting you and your girlfriend?

Re: speeding ticket in Weymouth
Not being an ATGATT guy, I will not beat you up for not having all kinds of gear on.
Someone said earlier in this thread to be calm, respectful, and well dressed for the court appearance, and I agree. Respectfully state the facts of the case, that you were approaching the officer head on, that he did not check the appropriate box on the ticket as to how he got your speed, and state that you definately were not going 51 mph (since he does not have "Radar" or "Clocked" checked, you can do this). You can then explain to the magistrate or court officer that the officer and his "assistant" proceeded to berate your girlfriend in front of you, and her, in a blatant attempt to escalate the situation, which is exactly what they are *not* supposed to do.
Above all, be respectful, dress well, and rehearse your plea. You will be nervous, guaranteed, but you can succeed here.
If you adhere to these guidelines, you can be sure to get the ticket reduced, or continued without finding, and you can get a little satisfaction in exposing the officers for what they did.
If nothing else, the Gates/Crowley case drew attention to the fact that having a bad attitude is not against the law - especially if the attitude was provolked by the police, which in your case, it certainly was. No, you did not get arrested for it, but you did end up on the recieving end of poor treatment.
In the mean time, I am sure that this little event will slow you down a bit, and that is surely a good thing for everybody involved.
Good Luck!

if he's got a mic on his person, he's supposed to tell you he's recording.
remember, this is nh law - i now you're in nh so it applies but to others reading, nh is 1 of i think only 2 states that require 2 party consent
