That sucks bad. What color bike? By tinted shield, you mean windscreen? If so, what color? Dark smoke, chrome tint, blue etc? Anything that can help us better identify it would help. I'm not really in the Boston area that much but I'll keep a look out for it.

Only chance you got is if the campus had security cameras.

    Sorry to hear about it...
Was it chained up? No alarm or LoJack?

    Re: Stolen Bike

where was it parked? maybe i could leave my bike there & have it disappear

you probably should post pictures, VIN, and more descriptive mods done to it, so it can get identified a little easier.

I'm with Jim. Post some pics of the bike so we have a better idea of what it looks like. I drive by that area from time to time, so I'll be on the lookout. I doubt whoever stole it will be riding it around there. Sucks that its that easy to get a bike stolen.

How long did they leave the bike parked there?

went to school there and commuted - i chained my bike and had a scorpio alarm - people still tried to get it, never did (ended up pushing it over in frustration...) - its in no way a safe area and there were no cameras 2 years ago

    good luck,

i also read somewhere that someone would engrave their initials on all the plastics on the inside, in the event their parts from a stolen bike end up on the web. might want to suggest that if your friend ends up getting another bike

I've done something very similar to this in the past, when I only carried liability & would have taken the hit directly if it was stolen...now I make enough money to carry full coverage & gap insurance, therefore I secretly hope that she gets stolen...

    Re: Stolen Bike

I lived on Parker Street (right behind Wentworth) for 4 years and I wouldn't exactly call any parking lot around there "safe"

My roomate's CBR600 got stolen (only had a disk lock) and there were multiple times our cars were broken into.

Best bet is to ask Campus Police if they've gotten cameras. Other than that, keep an eye on eBay, craigslist, etc.

I'll keep an eye out for it as I am in the area quite often.

Do you ask for gap insurance only when you purchase the bike or can you ask for it later?

    Re: Stolen Bike

I'm seriously considering getting LoJack. I know it's no guarantee your bike won't get stolen but anything to try to recover it helps. Plus I think you get a reduction in your theft insurance.

Ususally it is only available when you putchase a new bike or auto I think. I'm sure you might be able to find a place that can add it after the fact as long as the bike was pretty new.

    Re: Stolen Bike

Ouch, sorry for your buddy, He will have to go to the police station to report it where I work. There is Annunciation projects across the street and Mission main on the other side. That area is the worst to park anything honda related (cars) and bikes too.

My partner and I have locked up a few kids in the area, all car thieves, when they are gone usually then its the amateur ones that knocked the guys bike over, or do tons of damage to get at a car stereo.

Even if the bike is registered out of state he will have to go to 135 Dudley st to fill out the reports. Wentworth has gotten alot better over the years with security, check with them, and def post some pics. I will tell guys at work to look out. It is probably right around the corner at horadan or mcgreevey. There are alot of parking lots behind the houses, that's where they let the cars sit for a few days or on the street, they will wait to see if there is lo jack on them. Take a quick ride through, pm me if you like, I will go through, people there don't rat on each other, so unless the bike is inside smelling like gas, noone will call.

    good luck
    carl

    Re: Stolen Bike

That blows, I graduated there a couple years ago too and its not a great area around campus. I'm kind of supprised it was stolen from the east lot, but then again its rite on parker st. and the lot is wind open.

Whenever I parked in the student lots there was always a security guard somewhere making sure you had a pass. At night not so much.

I usually parked my bike where the teacher lot was near the front of campus. Never had any problems there.

I'll keep a look out on craigslist.
