I think this is pretty common. My last trip to Germany I saw people riding in just crazy weather. One morning there was freezing drizzle where it was sketchy to walk never mind ride. I saw the same amount of bikes out had it been 60 and sunny. A lot of people in europe just have a bike and thats how they get around 365 days a year. Owning a car is so damn expensive its hard for some to afford. Especially living in a city where parking is near impossible in a car.
When I bought my latest bike I had read lots of people complaining the front brake caliper seized up. I later found out its because they are riding in the damn snow and salt. The bore was getting corroded and seizing the pistons up.
