So, I'm on the hunt for a new 16x18 master cylinder for the KTM. Cruising fleabay shows TONS of knockoff Brembo stuff from Thailand.

Who the hell makes this stuff and sells it for $15? I'm not surprised to find knockoffs, but I am surprised to find that by selling it for $15 they're not really even attempting to hide the fact that it's a knock-off. I'd have expected them to be trying to sell for close to retail prices. I started thinking "who would buy this crap?" then the google showed me this:

I was looking to get brembo rotors for the cage and I was running into fakes on ebay to. Brembo may not be trademarked or copyrighted in all countries, thus the reason they're getting knocked off so much.
Wow.i heard there just as good,if not the same as a real brembo..i just order one..guess i'll find out

I can confirm the calipers are NOT as good as Brembo. When they made the molds, they forgot to take into account dimenstional changes for finishing... as a result you usually have to pop the pistons out, and hone the bores to keep the pistons from siezing.
Lots of stunters have been using them for a while...they seem to work good but I wouldn't waste my money...

there are some REAAAAAAAAL brainiacs over there.
the man has obviously never had any experience whatsoever with metals. theres so many variables, the thousands of grades of aluminum, machining, molds, manuf. qc, etc etc. it amazes me how some people who know absolutely nothing can just spout off bs like that.they are probably the same except for the internals, but if you buy a rebuild kit and it fit it would probably make it just as good as a real one..machined aluminum is machined aluminum. what could really be so different besides the internals?
Yes, there is the hitch......they are using it for a rear hand break and not 140 to zero so......its def knock off junk but cheaper than most...
I wouldn't run it Ever but stunters have a diff mentality on some things...
they also use gsxr 1k masters also, with real good results..

I used to spend 3-5 weeks at a time in China on business. The markets of knock off goods were all over the place. I found an identical North Face bag that I've used for 3+ day trips in the White Mountains for $20. Brought the bag home and compared it to it's twin that I had purchased at EMS about a year and half prior for somewhere north of $250. They were literally identical. The direction of the stitching, how the knots were tied, the logos on the zipper, the way the seams were sealed, the tint of the fabric, the text and location of the "made in china" label, everything....
That being said, I still wouldn't trust my life to one of the knockoff master cylinders. I just don't want that going through my head as I head toward turn 1....

That may simply be a case of "re-routed" merchandise, before it ended up getting shipped on a boat and gone through two warehouses and put in a retail store. Maybe even "unlawfully diverted" from the actual place of origin.
There is a big difference between getting a good price on the actual thing and paying short money for a poor knockoff.
The bag you described was likely not a knockoff. These brembos are knockoffs.
Ya know what I mean?

Knockoff or not... I've never packed that bag into the mountains on a three day hike. Even though I've failed to find any visual differences, I don't want to find any functional differences when I'm knee deep in snow and the wind is blowing hard. Just like I wouldn't want to find any functional issues with those master's coming into turn 1.![]()

in the end, its "you get what you pay for" i dont think ive ever found a product that didnt hold true to that phrase. it may work well for being used as a hand brake for 0.5 mph wheelies but as others have said, coming hard on the binders into your first corner or on a tight mountain road........

I have the knock off toyo-kawi-dahahtsu steering damper on my bike and it works great..."ohlins knock-off "
I think I got a knock off girlfriend once. When I got her she claimed to swallow, take it in the ass, and like it freaky. Then I get it home and not the real deal.
What the fuck is this knock off thing going crazy?
