So true, so true. I forget about sometimes that nowadays. We're down to our last dweller now, and now that his buddies are starting to get their drivers licenses, we hardly see him!

Re: Street Glide Special First Impressions

Got the HD branded dunlop off the rear wheel of my RK yesterday. What a brick! One of the stiffest tires I've ever handled. The Metzeler that went on felt like a road-race slick in comparison. Butter.

    Cannot wait to ride it.

Now, to figure out how to correctly set the belt tension. Seems I need to adjust to between 3/8 and 9/16ths of travel while adjusting using a 36mm wrench and the axle torqued to 20 ftlbs and 4.5 kg of force on the belt. No problemo!

Also discovered that if you leave the air-over-oil shock in your tool cart overnight with the disconnected air-port facing down all the oil will leak out of the shock!
I need to switch to aftermarket coil-overs soon!

I found having a second set of hands helped quite a bit when tourqeuing the axle nut. My adjusters kept creeping on mine.

    I love yootoobe!

Looks like this procedure is in my future. I like that he mentions that a shock leaked an lost an "unknown amount of fluid". Uh, yup! Can relate!

Also meant to mention you can get belt deflection tools for $20-30, depending on which tool you opt for.

Re: Street Glide Special First Impressions

I have the deflection tool. I'm not sure if I am just a klutz, a perfectionist, or what. But it took me a few tries to get the belt the way I wanted it. As is it is probably a smidge tight, but whatever, it's done. Time to ride.

FWIW, I can be the same way with chain adjustments too. I am never happy with how a chain is adjusted and eventually just get distracted with something else.

Book calls for an off-set torque adapter to use on the rear axle bolt. Not clear why as there is plenty of access for a socket.

Unfortunately I am not ready to ride yet. As mentioned, I had some of the shock fluid leak out. Not knowing how much I decided to do that vacuum fluid swap per the video above. It turns out I'd lost very little fluid as I got almost a full 10 oz out of both sides. Also the oil that came out was pretty clean. Not nearly as funky as the putrid snot I've taken out of the forks of most japanese motorcycles I've owned.
But again, whatever. I had some 10wt on the shelf from racing. So she got a full shock oil swap. Unfortunately on re-assembly I have an air leak for the air-over-oil system. Then I ran out of time to screw with it. I have to track that down, resolve and then finish re-assembling the bike. Oh, yeah, and a brake pad swap. Might as well while in there. Then the rear should be good to go for at least 10k miles.

Got an evening in on the new Metzeler rear. I like these tires.

The 7 year old juice Harley put in the rear shocks must have been poo or something. With fresh 10wt and 8 psi of air in the shocks the bike suddenly handles washboard and potholes SO MUCH BETTER. Night and day!

After doing that a few times I got in the habit of checking the floorboard hinges pretty regularly. That thing binding and then hitting the pavement could make for a bad day

I've already been advised to hit those with Dubbya-Dee every once in a while.

Seacoast HD just called to let me know that they think I have $6500 in "equity" in my '14 RK police.

I keep getting calls from the sisterhood of dealerships in the area asking if I'm up for selling or trading mine in. Great news! They'll take boats in trade too!

I usually let 'em just go to voicemail. But I accidentally answered once. Even after telling (whoeverthefuckitwas) to stop with the phone calls, I can still count on one every couple weeks. They're relentless...

This was the first such call I'd received. I think I got spam email once or twice and hit the delete key pretty hard and fast.
I was extra bothered as it took him 3 tries to get my name right! Pretty obviously reading off a call list.

$6500. Ha ha ha ha ha! I'd ride it off a pier into the ocean sheppo style before accepting that!

Re: Street Glide Special First Impressions

The gal that snuck through seemed to think that they could get me what I paid for it. I LOL'd and told her she knew damn well they had no intention of making that happen. She also thought I was still financed through Harley. I broke the news that I made the one obligatory payment to Harley about a year and a half ago then refi'd for less than half their rates.

She continued to insist they could get me on a brandy new Street Glide. Which, honestly I'd look into if it didn't add any length to my note. I'm still hard over the blacked out Charcoal Metallic Street Glide. If I went that route, I'd probably get silly and stage it up before taking delivery.

Re: Street Glide Special First Impressions

I actually went in and sat down with the sales thugs this weekend. I had no intention to, but Big Shirl wanted to stop by there after lunch Sunday.

    1) The exact model of mine was on the floor. Same year, same color, about the same mileage. Tag was $23,000. I paid $17K OTD in Feb. of last year (2020)

    2) They didn't have the color combo 2021 I want. But they'd be happy to sell me the 2020 with SIMILAR colors with 1000 miles for a mere $1000 less than the 2021 I was interested in (they sold it a couple weeks ago).

    3) Either way, if I trade it they're willing to give me $1000 more than what I paid for it. I'm sure I'd get more if I actually played around with them, but I wasn't in the mood.

I told them if they could find a 2021 blacked out Charcoal Metallic Street Glide, we'd talk. Fuck me, man.

I know original owner and it’s very clean.

If it's clean & unmolested, it seems like a decent deal in light of today's market. The 96CI Twin Cam was a solid motor. I believe the big updates came in '14, with bigger better updates in '17.

2009 is the first year with the redesigned frame, which is a huge improvement over pre-2009. With the way the market is right now that price seems ok, I sold my 2009 FLHTP for $9,250 a little over a year ago. However, the upside to going with the FLHTP(police bike) over the standard street glide was that it had the 103" motor, beefier suspension, better clutch, etc.

I have a Rienhart on mine and absolutely love it. Not to loud, but sounds incredible. Almost sounds like my TL-R with the Yosh cans.
