Wow, that was awesome. Except checkered flag man forgot to take his Ritalin.

You can also hang the rear out further with an extended swingarm.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Lol, Greg, can you actually transfer those ice drifting skills to pavement? I don't think it's really all that similar. It theory, yes, in technique, yes, in practice, not so much. Otherwise every dirt rider on the planet would be driftin around every corner when they get on a street bike. I know I would be.

HOW in the FUCK do you do THAT?!?!??!
Yeah, that drift vid was awesome, too. When I first saw that the bike was stretched I was all like "huh???" Then I figured it'd probably help stabilize the bike with the longer wheelbase.
Someone get me a stretched bike and some Shinkos. I'll happily test out the theory. :naughty
No really... someone get me a stretched bike and some Shinkos!

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Great vid. Some of the camerawork was great. I like the go pro inside the swingarm, pointed back to the rear wheel.
I guess there is a place for Icon gear.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Pretty cool...but I prefer Marco's one hander drift:
YouTube - melandri drift

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Nick is a savage.
3rd time on the bike, ever...
Yes GP riders are amazing... but for a home built ZX-10 it's still pretty good. Even extended.

Icon makes some really good gear. Don't be an uninformed hater Chuck.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
I was wondering why they picked that track. The driver is an ex indy driver and part owner of that track.
Interesting info: My first time ever on a road course was there and the guy waving the flags at the end sold my best friend his STI.

ICON doesn't make gear. It's just a label slapped onto gear made by various manufacturers.

Well then they sell good gear.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Video was pretty AWESOME... I also like the design of the Icon helmet he was using.. kinda like a motorcross/street helmet.

Just like most companies? I can't speak to the big names in racing gear, but that is how apparel in general is done. Most companies do not have their own manufacturing.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
Neat video, but I can't imagine going to all the trouble of stuffing a small block chevy V8 in that chassis and limiting it to only 375 HP. That's a pretty mild SBC. With such a light car, a high-reving (like 8000 RPM), short-stroke motor with forged crank, heavy duty rods and an aluminum block/heads would be awesome.

Re: Stretched zx10 vs. V8 powered rx7 drifting showdown
someone finally show you all the proper use of extended swingarm. remember you were all hater one time?

LS1's are aluminum and that swap is fairly common so it's not that much trouble.
Edit: Here's a conversion package from Hinson http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/p-102...n-package.aspx

That is a way cool video. This is finally showing me a use for an extended swingarm I didn't see a use for it till now except in drag racing.

They picked Sandia b/c it's next to Ernie's house and they have full access to the track.
Yes it's way easier to drift a bike with extended swingarm, to the point Nick finds it almost boring. New drift bikes have shorter swingarms.
Following Nick around Chuckwalla filming him was insane (I'm on R6). He'll just light the rear up and have it sideways, back and forth, all over the place.

Ernie as in Edub? That makes sense. I was told, dunno if true or not, that Jim is part owner of Sandia.

you described a motor that will have very peaky power, an LS1 has more grunt all the time, is super bombproof and reliable and has more control over the power and more rpm range for the power needed.
