Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Just as a datapoint. THe fredettes on the 150 are freeking amazing. Grip for days, perfectly easy to back in, and I saw no performance drop in the fluff. I believe it is not so much that you need Marcel type screws, but tall, properly spaces knobs are what give that great all around performance.
The AMA tires are built on those Kendas, which are more like a flattrack tire. Not very deep lugs and minimal spacing. I think that is best for clean ice and also for longevity. I am optimistic that my Fredette Motoz rear will be the perfect tire for me on the 250 (forks are in the shop). I maintain that the Marcel's are fun, but take 90 percent of the learning out of the sport.

I am so much more a fan of the Fourniers after today. So much fun, even after the ice got shitty.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
This isn't a thread for reviewing ice tires, this is to see if anyone wants to get in on a sweet group buy.
-
Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Sorry for the hijack. That's pretty much over. No? No one at all showed interest.

Pretty sure Duncan was being sarcastic, based on his description of the "group buy" as "sweet."

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
I want trail snow tires and I am cheap
Anyone know if the k3 tires are any better than me throwing a $100 box of grip studs into a DOT motoZ tractionator?
-
Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
You can get away with ice screws in any harder compound tire. The won't last a winter of riding, but it's cheap and it will get you out there. I did that until I bought a real set. Then I think I gave them to nhbubba. Really the performance isn't much different new, but they die quick.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Thank you, OP, for at least taking the time to offer a cost reduction to the forum.
I don't see anything wrong with what you posted, personally, but you are obviously not going to be accepted into the elite ice riding crowd on this forum any time soon.
Quite saddening to see a group of adults pile on when all this guy wants to do is ride in the winter and offer something he has access to. Be gracious for once because the manner in which a few of you chose to respond to this thread has been seen and will likely be considered by others and the result is we all lose out.
You don't have to like what's being offered but consider supporting the intent rather than trashing the efforts.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Run some kold kutters into a take off with some silicone. That's good enough for whatever you're going to do...in San Diego.

Kinda like safety services at the track requiring an eject...

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Nice try but, no, nothing like that at all.
The tires will actually be used unlike.....well, you know.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
That's all you have? Bringing up a topic that was discussed 4 years ago and trying to connect it to this?
-
Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
There's no elite anything on NESR. We are jokers having fun on the ice. I know a lot of people prefer winter woods stuff. That's cool too. This thread just got funked like so many others by misinterpretations of attitudes.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
I've got no dog in this hunt but my vote is to dump the BS from this thread and maybe Tony wants to talk with some of his staff about how they handle themselves on the forums.
Just a thought.
-
Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
This has nothing to do with Tony. I also have no dog in the fight. I didn't think the OP was out of line in any way. He did get jumped a little, but it happens.
Do people think we are paid to post or that we are representing Tony 24/7? That's not how it works. Everyone here was here before Tonys and has their own online personality. We get a long with some, not so much with others. Just like everyone else. Pretty much everyone I have butted heads with online has been very cool in person. I don't pass judgement based on forums anymore. That's all I'm sayin.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
And all I'm saying is, as a business owner, I'd rather not someone start associating some of the aformentioned bullshit with the signatures if it were my company.
And yes, you absolutely do represent Tony 24/7 and anyone who carries that signature represents Tony 24/7. It's not like the posts disappear once you log out. They are on a public forum which is viewed by hundreds.....possibly thousands. Consider that.

No, sorry, that thread is in the pit area, this thread is for arguments.

How do you feel about someone mis-representing your product-intentionally or not.
Say like someone creating a post suggesting a set of friction spiked tires as "ice/snow/offroad tires"
I legitimately thought maybe someone had made a tire that did it all. The more I read the more I realize the OP never ever meant it this way. Right now I think he's never ridden a set of ice tires. Possibly not even seen a set up close.

Re: Need Studded Ice/Snow/Offroad tires?
Colin,
I read what OP stated once and got it.....they are multipurpose tires as described. No misrepresentation whatsoever. One look at the link he posted and holy shit, they arent ice tires(!!), again, as described. Then all the fuss started and here we are.
And Chip, you didn't exactly do anything to help the situation so your high horse comment of "I love winter" is malarky because you're right in the thick of too, bud.
Let's be honest with ourselves, people. A group of you started some bullshit over nothing but a member trying to offer something. Stop with the pretentiousness and think about issuing an apology for your childish nonsense. Guy posts up an offer an it gets shit on 6 ways to Sunday. Real fuckin nice. Can't wait til I offer something soon because there are roughly 4 of you who can get fucked right off the bat.
