Thumbs down like they say "there's two kinda bikes..."

"...those that have been down & those that will go down"

unfortunatly mine is now the former. Luckilly it was at 0 miles per hour & since my BEST FRIEND (of over 12 years) dropped it, he will pay for the damages (that is, if i even decide to get new plastic or fix it up).

long story short, i let him borrow it (we both got our M licenses together 3 years ago, but i am alot more proficient, as i'm the only one that has a bike to ride) & he "set" it down in his gravel driveway.... apparently his foot broke the fall, since it's pretty sore. (hehe, serves him right )

Now for the finer details: Like I said his leg & foot broke most of it's fall so it didn't hit hard & the damage is actually less than i expected. Just a single 1.5 inch scratch on the front plastic right where it meets the side & a bunch of little scrapes & skuffs on the side plastic. Exhaust has a little skuffing but VERY small, near the bolt on point & is hardly noticable w/o getting really up close & personal. The right side mirror was already slightly skuffed up from the original owner, and the only other damage was very minor scraping to the bar end & front brake lever. That's all she wrote, so i'm not too upset

I had a really hard time giving him the key since we were in the city, but he was begging like a little big eyed puppy dog & i finally gave in. I had a funny feeling the entire time it was gone. I let him ride it last weekend, but the difference was, we were on the north shore & i was behind him the whole time in his audi... so i figured it was more or less a fair trade.

Bottom line is, there's not much damage & I'm just glad he didn't do it at speed, since he decided not to wear my jacket & only borrowed my helmet. It's just too bad since i've only had the bike 4 weeks to the day it happened

i may or may not take pics.... w/ HIS new digital camera

I recently offered ta swap rides with Daytona440 next time we get togeather. I wouldn't have suggested this if I didn't think he had it togeather.

I would never let someone take my bike if I never observed their ability to ride.

Thats's jus the way I am.

werd... i'm definitely not tossin my keys to anyone who's not more proficient than i am again.

like i said... the damage is very minimal... it definitely coulda been alot worse. i have no idea why i gave into peer pressure like that

i just have to decide whether or not i want him to buy me a new plastic. I think if i do, i'll tell him i'm replacing the bar ends as well (w/ delrin ones, if that's a good idea) but i'll pay for those myself, as the bar end that got scraped up isn't bad at all... just a few scratches, nothing big. I'm sure next time we go out the bar tab will be on him

that's the one reason why i'm glad it was him & not someone else. We've been super close friends since the first week of 7th grade & that was back in '92 & i know he was tellin me the truth when he said "dude, i'm so fuckin sorry. I'll do whatever needs to be done to make this right, i'll pay for whatever".

poor guy was probably as worked up about this as much as i was

A very similar thing happend to me back in '98 to my new ZX6R. My friend, who I was living with, decided to take my bike out for a spin while I was at work. He had just gotten his permit and had absolutely zero experience riding motorcycles.

I still remember the phone call...'Jay, I'm alright, but your bike...'

He lowsided it and managed to do quite a bit of damage to my brand new bike. It was in the shop for a long time, too.

I hope you've learned a lesson. Only let people who you know are solid riders on your bike.

That doesn't always pan out either.. I consider myself a pretty good rider. Well My cousin let me take his R6 to Deals Gap last year because mine was held up in a shop because of an attempted theft. It was held up because of a lazy ass appraiser couldn't get to check it out on time..
Anyways after a long day of riding I creaped up on a fellow rider about 5 miles from our house and had to hit the brakes hard because he was going slower than I expected through the corner. So I stood the bike upright and hit front and back brakes hard, but the road stopped and the gravel began, then the low side @ about 5 mph. Very little damage to the bike, everything was working fine, nothing bent, just scraps and scratches. I got back up and continued back to the house pissed! I payed to replaced everything to new as far as the parts. He barely even noticed the damage, but I was extrememly upset I did this to his bike... He couldn't care less.. He said what ever dont worry about it.. Of coarse I did and made everything good!! All is still well with us and ride together often! Funny he has never ridin my bike... I'll have to let him... That way I can ride his new 954 !
