    First ticket for plate location

I got pulled over because of my plate today for the first time.
It happened in Foxboro on RT 140. The cop told me it was a felony offense due to trying to "conceal my identity".
If I was trying to conceal my identity than why the hell would I bother pulling over.
Anyways, he gave me a 35 dollar fine for the location and a warning on the felony. But he said come Monday if he sees me again without it moved he will charge me for it.
I don't really like the look but I might just get a plate bracket for the swingarm.

It's from Competition Werkes. It mounts in the same holes as the pass. pegs and has the directionals attached to it. There is also an led that lights it up.

I have seen that kit before. I used to have something similar, but decided it wasn't worth it. I have the tail cleaned up on my bike now, but I put the plate out in a nice obvious place (thanks to a great kit that came with my exhaust). I think it still looks pretty good, without asking for any unnecessary attention from the fuss. I agree that the swing arm kit might cause you the same problems you have now.

    You will...

I have the plate up in that area on the 998 (I didn't put it there) and I am just waiting to get pulled over.

I have asked police friends that ride and they are not worried about it but all it takes is one guy to go absolutely by the rules and I am done.

Three years with it and this was my first issue. I asked him about the swingarm bracket and he said that it was fine but some guys might give me hell for the vertical style saying they are difficult to read.
Still doesn't give me a place for directionals. Maybe an intergrated taillight I guess.

Re: First ticket for plate location

My Comp Werkes FE came with two mounting options, the one you have being one of them. I stuck with the stock location because a friend of mine that has the same bike as me put it on the passenger pegs and you can't see it when you are sitting on the bike. My bike attracts enough attention with the exhaust, I don't need another reason to get my balls busted.

wherever it is, have it visible and well-lit and you won't have any reason for them to complain....the swingarm may work as long as your numbers are visible.

I had a plate there on my SV and got nailed. Its not worth the ticket to clean up the tail that much. Thats why I just kept the stock shovel on my trumpet

As far as giving police a valid reason to fuck with us. I guarantee if you pull over 10 bikes, be it sport or cruiser, 9 of them will have something "illegal" on them if you look hard enough. I mean really. How many guys (or gals) on this forum have aftermarket parts on their bikes that wouldn't technically pass an inspection. Be honest. Don't you think being charged with a felony is a little harsh.
I am going to start a new campaign to get everyone in the country to start riding motorcycles totally stock so the police won't bother us. Who's in?
(That also includes staying within the speed limit at all tiimes.)

I'm one of the 1 in 10, so there.

BUt seriously, search the forum, aside from speeding, which of course, we ALL do time to time, find the #2 reason people complain about being pulled over. Its rarely exhaust, never turn signals, but its ALWAYS about plate location. Seems to me, mounting it somewhere where they can read it just gives them (statistically from my observations) one less thing for them to fuck with you for.

Re: First ticket for plate location

its not a felony first off i believe. 2nd the State Police are crackin down on the placement of where your plate is. Some guy on a CBR forum lives out in western mass and he caught hell for where his plate was. Also your turn signals are technically suppose to be 12 inches apart from eachother, so a integrated taillight would not technically pass.

I had a fender eliminator tucked above my rear hugger, got pulled over and didn't get any shit from the cop for that, but other people have, so I changed it just to be safe.

depends on the cop and your luck

And you get more waves from the cruiser crowd...

It is true tho. Had an officer pass me in the opposite direction on a back road yesterday while about 20 over. I was on a standard bike w/ bolt upright sitting position. He just flashed the blues for a sec and kept on goin on his way (w/ a thankful wave from me of course). I think he would've spun around for the TLR.

Butterblood - I like the cleaned up look, but I agree it'd be one less thing to deal w/ if you can install the plate at the end of the tail. And integrated tail will not pass inspection. Again, love the look, but I'd rather have signals which other motorists can actually see.

For the first time in my life the car beside me was pulled over, and I was just waved by the speed trap. We were matching each others speeds perfectly, I'm sure sitting upright, with one hand on the bars just cruising didnt hurt matters.
