I was going to mention this stupid law as well but opted against it, but yes the cross walk law is similar and I really do not like it at all.

While somewhat related, I also despise people that when taking a left from a sidestreet block the one lane and just wait for someone to stop and let them go in the right lane. I fucking hate those bastards, I never let them go.

Look man I'm no saint. At the beginning I stated this was like my biggest pet peeve and it still is. I didn't post up, I hardly reply to any thing and I only do when I think I have something valid to say. And as far as I'm concerned I haven't ganged up on anyone. About the stupid right of way thing it happens all the freaking time to me, I wish people would learn to drive. If one or two people read this and figure out that the best way for them to be nice is to learn who goes first at intersections instead of making it up on their own I figure we win.
As for the guy who got hit man I feel for him and man it hits home. Because I've been there, I've done what he did and got away with it, but I still hate it.
The fact is I've signaled to these "nice" drivers and they just do not understand, they have no clue. And this stuff is taught, some guy should not have his femur seperated from his hip in order for some one to learn what was taught ( and I know it was, I was a driving instructor in college, great job actually ) in drivers ed and is required knowledge to get a license.

dude..he is spot on...
i am not arguing the law..the way the law is written the camry driver is at fault...100%
this arguement/outrage is not about the law...it is about COMMON SENSE...you must have the common sense enough to know that stopping in when you have the right of way is a terrible idea....stopping to let someone go is reckless. As crazy as that sounds it is true...you may be doing the guy pulling out a favor but you are causing chaos to him and everyone around him....what would he have done if a line of traffic was cruising by in the other lane and your lane started backing up? He waits...you start to go...he starts to go...you stop...it's a nightmare!

Re: Right place at the "right" time...(crash content)
I'm not sure he gets it yet, someone explain it to him again :P
For the record, I agree with most of what's being said, I just think it's ridiculous that you guys are saying he doesn't know how to drive based on one poor decision. That's all.

Wasnt really my point. In fact, its probably worse because people WILL do it because its the law. God forbid the pedestrian has to wait a minute to cross the street.

And I hate that... The intent is good, but some people take it to the extreme... I rear-ended a car once cuz the driver jammed on his brakes in the rain for someone who wasn't even at the curb yet.

dont think he or a handful of other, including yourself truly understand the seriousness of this...this biker could have very easily lost his life over a very stupid mistake...

but at least there isn't s surprise...people should be prepared to stop at a crosswalk and you shouldn't follow so close...or whip u-turns without looking....

Problem there is in the city theres a crosswalk every 6 feet, and 9/10 because of the law a person will just step off the curb into the street without even pausing because traffic must stop for them.

isnt there an exception when there is a WALK/DONTWALK signal? if not there should be...in that case the law definitely does not make sense

Re: Right place at the "right" time...(crash content)
Even still, even in my town on main street theres a crosswalk in the center of every block.

ya, i agree with the law in those cases...sorry lol helps keep the speed down and allows them a safer way to get around town...
i think it should be treated like a yellow light though....don't stop unless it is safe and if you cause a pile up...it wasnt safe lol

Precisely. People will step off the curb full stride from behind an SUV and cars in both directions lock em up.
Allow the flow of traffic to do its thing until its safe to let the pedestrian go.

Speaking of crosswalks, why is it that people insist on pushing that god damn button at crosswalks to cross the road? Are they high? Have they not realized after the dozens of crosswalks, and repeated depressing of the same button, that it does absolutely nothing? It’s ridiculous.
I live out by the beach here in Florida, and the number of tourists that I see everyday pushing those little red buttons with fury thinking they somehow change the turn of events from one side turning red and the other turning green is mind-bottling.
When I was a kid my dad taught me how to cross the fucking road, he never said – “listen son, don’t worry – there will be this magical button where all the world will stop and let you cross safely” – no, the man took me to a corner and showed me what green and red lights mean, and what to look for.
I see these dimwits standing there, frantically pushing the button, and looking around aimlessly waiting for their efforts to somehow bypass time and let them walk. All the while I’m sitting at a red light, with no magical button to push, watching them when they’ve had multiple opportunities to cross the road safely – while they stand staring at the red hand on the other side telling them it’s not safe.
Fucking morons. Oh and if I hit them, I’m the one that gets thrown in to prison for manslaughter.
And don’t even get me started on the ‘door close’ button in the elevators! Sheeesh what a waste of energy and space that is!
Grow up, look around – the world isn’t always going to stop for you.

Re: Right place at the "right" time...(crash content)
Did DocCola break the law? No.
Did DocCola try to do something nice? Yes.
Did DocCola's actions absolve the motorcyclist of his obligation to execute a safe left turns across 2 lanes of traffic? No.
Could the motorcyclist have chosen to wave DocCola forward because he did not see a safe gap across 2 lanes? Yes.
Did DocCola's actions annoy some of the drivers behind him? Apparently yes.
Did DocCola's actions absolve those annoyed drivers of their obligation to operate their vehicle safely? No.
Did DocCola's vehicle strike another vehicle? No.
Was one of the annoyed drivers cited at the scene because he struck and severely injured the motorcyclist? Apparently yes.
What can be concluded from these reasonably indisputable facts?
DocCola is a poor driver who causes more accidents than a drunken driver, irritates the shit out of other drivers, places innocent motorcyclists in grave danger and generally deserves to be pilloried for a good deed gone awry.
Makes perfect sense to me :twothumb:

so ah...not to interupt however, i'm not sure if you and pops are aware, they have invented sensors to trigger lights...it's quite neat actually. You see a light will stay green until another car pulls up to the red light and trips the sensor. If not for said red button, which is probably a silvery metal color but that is besides the point...if not for the red button you and dad could have spend a very long time in this learning experience....$.02
ps - they do do something :)
pps - door close is dumb :plusone:

Ryan, unless you can read minds, I don't think you're in any position to say what other people think, feel or understand.
