wow...it's interesting to see this thread plummet in the wrong direction based on the way it was worded...
this is what I picked up:
1.) The TL thread
-the TL thread was started to see who else has a twin.
-the TL thread was supposed to gauge who else also has a twin, and enjoy riding a twin
-the TL thread was started in hopes of starting a group ride
-there was NO intention of creating hatred or competition with 4-cylinders...granted the post was worded in a way that may come off the wrong way, I doubt it was intended with competition in mind.
2.) for this thread...
-gixxer read or saw the TL thread
-gixxer decided to start a similar thread to satirize the TL thread
-he wrote the first post of this thread in an outlandish way with a hint of sarcasm to ridicule the TL thread
-he DID NOT intend to stir up competition between a V-twin and an inline 4 (the way he did in the first post was supposed to be a joke)
-granted his first post was worded in a way that would piss off most 4-cylinder riders (I was pissed off when I read the first post), it was NOT intended that way.
-after people read the first post, they all lashed out at the (misguided) sarcasm
-granted it's obvious that 4-cylinders do make more hp, and will go faster in a straight line (which is the extent that most, but not all, riders on this forum have ridden a twin and 4-cylinder at their respective limits), the majority of people here assume that gixxer is using that criteria for judging twins...and if he races in a straight line, then he must be a drag racer, on public streets....this, of course, on a sportbike forum is a "lower status" type of rider, so people have to pull out their balls of steel, relate to their trackday experience, and condescend to him because he (probably) hasn't ever done one
now even though he's openly admitted that his first post was just a joke, and that all he was trying to do was get a ride together (similar to the way the TL thread was trying to), the majority of the people here hate him
sound about right?
