ok, well, if I'm gonna gear up for trackdays next season, I gotta figure some stuff out, so any help would be appreciated:
Should I get a 1 piece race suit? Or should I get a pair of pants that will match up with my current jacket and go with that? Or should I get a 2 piece race suit? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? (I'm thinking I should get a whole suit, just so I don't muck up my street jacket (although hopefully I won't be mucking anything up...)
any brand preferences / random advice?
Boots: any brand preferences, things to look for/look out for?
Gloves: same as boots, or should I just ride with my street gloves?
How about places to get this stuff? I'm gonna probably get the suit at least from newenough, but boots/gloves/etc. I'll buy local, I'm not gonna buy that stuff without trying it on first...
anything else I ought to know before I start trying to assemble this stuff?
Thanks![]()

Matt,
It comes down to what you like and can afford. Go and try on different gloves, boots, pants then look at newenough for deals as well as this place which also has good prices.
Discount Motorcycle Apparel
You might be able to get by with just pants, boots and gloves as long as your jacket is okay.
Ebay is another option but you need to know what fits before making the bid. I bought my Alpinestar SMX Plus boots on Ebay for half of what they go for.

Matt personally I prefer a 1 piece suit. Less seams to catch on things in the event of a spill. I have been using a Joe Rocket suit for a while. It can take many offs with out much damage and has great protection in the forearms and hips. I paid $440.00 for mine.
Boots. I highly reccomend the AlpineStar SMX's they are incredibly comfortable as racing boots go and are very very durable. I think I paid 120.00 for them
Gloves that is totally up to you so long as they are a full gauntlent glove and have carbon fibre or other protected knuckles. Again I use the Joe rocket Speedmaster gloves. They are about 120.00 but when you fall they protect well and are also very well ventilated. AlpineStar GP Plus is a great glove too.
The other thing that I highly reccomend is a spine protector. Most suits have a flimsy soft foam pad. It is just not enough. The spine protector is second only to your helmet. I use the Bohn Body armor. It took a bit to break in and get used to but it is comfy now.
Again these are what I use and my opinion but I hope it helps.
I'm a big fan of 1 piece suits on the track. I use SYED's and have plenty of "tests" to show they work.
I currently own 2 suits, and will be selling one at the end of the year. I would also be willing to loan it out for Track Days this year... sort of a "rent to own" program?
I wear a vest under it, so it can fit anyone up to a 40 inch waist... as long as you don't also have a big ass.![]()
As for height, it would be 5'8" plus or minus 2 inches.
Cost new would be over $1000. Has some minor scuffing. Will sell for $500.
Some photos of it are here: (lettering comes off pretty easy)
