I just got a call from my mother about an hour ago. It wasn't good. Apparently, she had just witnessed a bad motorcycle accident in Ware, and was relaying the scene to me over the phone. The first thing she told me was that a car (eventually revealed to be a Jetta 2.5) had rear-ended a motorcycle right in front of the Hess near the center of Ware. She was at the gas station and saw the kid go flying of the bike, and watched both bike and rider go sliding across the pavement. She told me she could hear the kid screaming, saw him crawling toward the sidewalk yelling that he couldn't feel his legs, and that someone had just called 911. I asked her if he was okay (in one piece, at least), what kind of bike it was, where the car driver was, etc. As she ran over to see what the bike was, I could in fact hear the downed rider screaming in agony in the background, a sound still ringing in my ears. She looked at the bike, and said with a very shrill shakiness "Oh my god, its an orange and black Ninja, Mark its a fucking Ninja!" obviously referring to the fact that I myself ride a 'Ninja'. She said she ran back over to the sidewalk, where I then heard her yelling at the driver of the car "You rear-ended him, how could you not see him?" At this point I heard the sirens over the phone, and she started describing how the EMTs were strapping him down as he cried to them that he had no feeling in his legs. At this point she had to end the call to talk to the Police, so I have no idea what happened beyond that. Now I'm in no way trying to list out all the details, as I don't even know them all yet myself. This is just based on the description of a frantic mother, worried that what she had just scene could have very well happened to her own son.
If anyone hears more about this, please, please, please post up details, I'm sick to my stomach over this. I used to live in Ware, and used to ride that stretch all the time.
Godspeed to this particular rider, I hope his injuries are not as serious as they sounded.
Shit... hate to read this stuff.
Hope the guy is going to be ok.

Terrible. Find out if the driver was on the phone, then send her to jail.
That really sux! Unfortunately, it is one of the risks you take on the street. We all do it, but never think it will happen to us! I hope he comes around. Fucken cagers on cell fones!!
If all else fails, Lean more....
Shit son, I have goose bumps right now. Poor kid, and your mom, jeesh, my mother would have freaked too. I hope the rider is doing ok now, and hope that your mom is ok as well.
That is my one fear on the bike, getting rear-ended (that and sliding into guardrails)...

I feel bad for your mom, and definitely for the ninja pilot.
May the jetta driver be sentenced to a daily ass ramming for the rest of his/her life. And god help that person if they were on a cellphone.
Heal up quick Ninja man.
Bad shit...I can see why your mom was so upset...to be on scene and witness that...I hope he's going to be ok and obviously will sue that fucking moron. How can someone NOT see him ahead? Let's see...cell?...texting? Folks...when you are last in line at a stop, give yourself a cars length between you and the car ahead...angle your bike outward a bit, keep it in 1st, and WATCH for the next car coming up behind you...if it even looks like you're in danger, you're set to get the hell outta the way, or at least have a chance at it, rather than just sitting in line, looking everywhwere but at what's going on behind you. You're a sitting duck. Make sure they come to a complete stop. (same rules apply if you're alone at a stop) Every time I see someone stopped 3 feet behind some cage, arms folded, looking straight ahead, it makes me wince. I just keep telling myself...I'm invisible to everything and everyone around me. Good advice.
Jesus. Right up the road from the house. I'll be driving by it today to head to the lumbar yard. Heal fast son.

If it was the same incident, the woman was charged, according to the local CBS affiliate Saturday morning... Biker was hospitalized with serious injuries, whatever they were..
Didn't hear a whole lot about this over the weekend, but I can say that according to witnesses, the driver of the car was a young male (20s) that had a dog in his passenger seat. The rider of the bike was a male that appeared to be in his 30s.
The bike was on 32 in town about to turn right down Pulaski St after the Hess station. The bike apparently slowed down and put its turn signal on, but before he could initiate the turn, I guess the car didn't even see him and rammed him at full speed. I guess the bike was hit so hard that the exhaust pipe came off, and was laying on the ground next to the rider after impact. I don't have any specifics like names, ages, size of the bike, etc. From what I heard, he was able to move his legs a little while on the stretcher, so there's a little ray of hope that his injuries aren't as severe as I initially thought. Hope he's recovering well.
Be careful out there, folks. Definitely need to maximize our awareness, since we gotta share the roads with cars and trucks.
Well that's a relief. Somewhat.

WOW
That is a scary story.
Please let this be a reminder to people to ALWAYS look in their mirrors when slowing doown and when at a light/stop sign. You can never be to cautious but one thing I always do is make sure I show extra brake lights (I even have a flasher installed) and always check your mirrors.
Plus keep it in gear with a way out and an eye on your 6 'oclock when at a full stop.
Hope the rider is ok.
