I had a fun chat with the AlpineStars reps at COTA about how long it was going to be before the velcro patches appear on the elbows of their suits. I was told it's probably not too far off. Marquez is shredding his elbows regularly enough.

Ahh, no! At the GP race last weekend, the announcers were saying lean angles of the tires were 61 degrees from the track surface, I beleive they said 64 was the limit.
Impressive for sure, and watching the race sure makes it look like no trickery on photes

thanks for confirming my observation, the angle to the track in my perception appears to be about 60° where the angle to the rumble strip appears to be about 75°

During the race they were commenting that to keep up with Marquez the rest of the riders are gonna have to start riding like him. Its belief defying to watch...

He's not leaning any further than anyone else, he's just so far off the bike that he can carry way more speed to achieve that angle.

Yeah looks like they've already put a plastic patch on there... only a matter of time until they put a hard plastic slider.

Marquez seems to be able to use more mid corner speed due to his radical style. I'm noticing he picks the bike up later than anyone else, but still gets incredible drive to the ground.

Literally. He said they have to replace that plastic piece the hard way. I asked if they'd eventually just go to velcro and he said they've been talking about it and it seems somewhat inevitable.

I noticed that too. Carrying a ton of lean angle post apex is usually not the fastest way around the track (?) and a recipe for a highside... seems odd to me but clearly it works for him...

there was one slide at full lean and the commentator thought he was going down but Russell was like nothing to worry about he does it every time. how he can kick the back end out at that lean angle and not go down is mind numbing

I haven't been that excited to watch someone in moto go since I first started watching stoner race. That kid is absolutely nuts and makes it look like nothing.
