I went cross country 5700 miles in 14 days on a VFR800 with stock ergos. It's not as comfy as the F6b, but the secret to comfortably riding distances on a sport-ish bike is core strength and letting the wind support your torso at speed. Excess weight on the wrists is a killer on long rides.

Yes, that is the same VFR1200. The are totally underrated. I love my older 2007 VFR. I m amazed how well it tours and how well it does corners. I could always push it a lot more than a Superhawk I used to have - must be the better suspenders. It is a little more on the sporty side of sport touring. Mine is setup with helibars, sargent seat and givi bags which makes it great for touring. last tank, filled up at 230 miles. Got an average of 47 mpg and filled 4.9 gallons (5.8 stock on the VTEC). As for your comment on the BMW K1200R, my friend bought a 2004 K1200GT for touring. His other bike was a 1993 VFR 750. We went on one week long trip. The VFR was a better bike and the K was too top heavy. He ended up selling the K1200GT and keeping the VFR. A few years later he bough an ST1100 to go cross country which he did. He really liked that bike. My two cents...
I see you live in Somerville. If you want to try the 2007 VFR I am happy to let you try it.
Picked this up for $6k. 24K miles, 2008. It's a great bike. Handles very well, and pulls really nice.

Same. Demo'ed a new one @ bike week. What a really nice machine. Gross overkill for me. But cannot say anything bad about it. $6k for that seems downright reasonable.
I would honestly be more interested in a VFR800, and the VFR800x is the bike they should have built for their ADV offering.

I was just thinking this morning "I wish there was an ST800" and then I remembered that Honda used to make that bike: Pacific Coast.
There's the NT700V Deauville which is like a mini ST.
I don't like the non-removable saddlebags though. I like the option of being able to use my small 21L Givi's, my huge 40L Givi's, or go bagless.
They do offer the VFR800X overseas.
Well, if you are looking for something different, my friend told me the other day that he is selling his well sorted MG Norge.
