Killington lawyer can't practice due to crash conviction

Killington, Vermont - March 17, 2010

The Vermont Supreme Court says a Killington lawyer convicted of a causing a crash and then lying about it can not practice law for the next year.

In 2008, Melvin Neisner slammed on his brakes to stop a tailgating motorcycle. The biker crashed and was seriously injured. Neisner fled the scene.

He said his wife was driving but later admitted he was behind the wheel. Neisner was sentenced to three months in prison. The state Supreme Court approved his one year suspension followed by a one year probationary period, during which he can't practice law.

I don't like it when something bigger than me tailgates....but, regardless...if someone is close behind me...bike, car, truck,...and they want to go faster... I pull over and let them by. Always. Simple.

I've had motorcycles tailgate me before, which is slightly annoying, but I always think, what would happen if I had to slam on the brakes for an emergency right now? The biker would be in the hospital and I would be collecting insurance to fix my hatch.

You've got to want to seriously incapacitate someone to brake-check a bike.

At the same time though, who would ride on someones ass on a bike anyways? That's just plain stupid.

I always tell my wife.... stop looking behind you and watch the person in front.

If someone is passing you on the right, you're going to slow... if you do notice someone tail gating... then you're going too slow.

Hell, even if I am not paying attention I'll move over as soon as I know I'm blocking the lane.. and maybe even 20% of the time it's actually a cop tailgating you to be on his way.. why take the chance of pissing off some nutbar, or worse.. a cop?

I was going 40 in a 30 on a single lane road during the nasty rain storm and there was a Mustang so close I couldn't see his headlights. I checked him and have no problem with it.
