What would you do?

This is kind of what I'm counting on. I guess it boiled down to this:

Worst case scenario if I took the key: forgetful biker thinks he must have brought the key to work with him, goes back to the office, searches for hours to come up empty handed. Eventually gets a hold of a spare key(if he has one), returns to his bike, goes to put his helmet on and discovers a note from someone saying they took his key. Said biker, while realizing that you were only trying to help, is EXTREMELY pissed, not necessarily at you, but because of the massive clusterfuck he had to deal with after a day of work.
Worst case scenario if I didn't take the key: Forgetful biker gets his bike stolen.

And to be clear, I would also appreciate if someone took my key and left a note saying they didn't want my bike to stolen. Just pointing out that the situation COULD be worse than you originally stated.

Best case scenario: You turn lights off, leave key in ignition where it sits all day. Biker gets out of work, finds key in ignition and rides home completely oblivious that an entire thread on an internet forum was started solely to discuss his bike.

My new friend just called up, thanked me, and came and got the keys. He was quite grateful. "I'm glad you did what you did" were his exact words. Human kindness triumphs over the naysayers.

The population of your town doesn't have all that much to do with how trustworthy the people there are. Massholes are massholes, despite the size of the town

For some people in NH, Massachusetts is the boogie man. All crime, poverty, poor schools, etc. originated there. Very convenient never having to take responsibility for any problems.

I've noticed, though, that most people in NH who complain about "Massholes" recently immigrated.

No doubt... plenty of disaster scenarios were running through my head, up to and including him thinking the key was lost forever and getting it towed home!
But the disaster scenario of someone stealing it just seemed so much more likely.

I skimmed so I I don't know if someone said this .
Turn lites out and hide key so no one could find it. I'm sure there are a lot of crevisieson a bike like that.
leave a couple of notes saying to call , and that you have the key, word it so he doesn't get to far away from the bike.
Hide the notes so everyone can't see them,but he has to find atleast 1 of them. Chances of a thief randomly going thru a bike and equipment is slim , if he's a dick, legaly you never took the key off of the bike.
On the other hand , if he has to retrieve the key you might have a better chance of a reward.
