i thought the same... EDIT: just watched it again, yeah, his hand goes back to shift.
picture a long, vertical stick shift on the left with a clutch lever. old skool. or it could be combined with a 'suicide clutch' where you rock a pedal with your foot.
that chopper is hilarious.

Here is a jockey shifter and a suicide clutch. Note that the jockey shifter is not official unless it has a skull, 8-ball, or die as a shift knob.
