The pegs are high enough that unless your body position is really really wrong it'll likely never touch the ground especially on the street. I haven't ridden an SV w/ them, but any other bike that I have I've only touched a peg to the curb not the pavement in any significant way while cornering. Yes that was a bit scary/startling but an edge case as far as this conversation goes. If you've never touched your stock pegs to the ground don't worry about it. By the time you have to worry about such things, you'll know how to stand a bike up in a corner a little more. They're made for racing.
That said I'm not a WC rep... just speaking from my own personal experience.

Your theory is sound, however I will never own a bike with stock rearsets. I absolutely hate folding pegs. They are slippery and reduce my riding confidence. Maybe its just me but I try to keep my bodyweight loaded on the pegs instead of my ass, through corners anyway...
+1 add rearsets to street bike
- I want the same feel, grip, and riding position that I have on the track
- I can't go back from GP shift
- If I'm turning hard enough to worry about dragging a hard part, I'm way off the bike and am going to drag my (unprotected) knee first.
as an aside, touching down a rigid peg isn't always a recipe for a crash. I watched that crazy guy (Scott?) that races the XR1200 dragging pegs, engine cases, and god knows what else, spitting stones up at me and sliding around while he schooled my ass in a race that he won.
Sounds like I shouldn't worry about pegs touching, especially on the street, but I should focus more on correct body positioning. I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger on the Woodcrafts, but not for additional clearance since the stock ones already seem to be sufficient (although the extra clearance might help if I ever start doing trackdays). Instead, I like the idea of the rigid pegs and they will look much better on my bike (yes, that's somewhat important to me).
Now, if I'm not dragging pegs, at what point do I need to worry about dragging the muffler? I have an M4 slip-on now, which I've been thinking about swapping for an M4 full system (or different M4 slip-on) in the future. I like the standard mount, but the race mount looks pretty good too (not a fan of the high mount).
I wouldn't really worry about scraping the exhaust either, unless you bin it. And if that's the case, but some bubba Landry sliders now. Good stuff cheap.
I have the high on mine (it came with it) and for a street bike it kinda sux, because I can no longer use my soft bags. Take that into consideration before making any changes.

If you scrape woodcraft pegs on an SV w/o crashing & do so on the street I'll personally smootch your naked behind, cuz that's WAY more lean than I'd ever be capable of.

New guy......you aint gonna scrape anything. Glad to have ya abord but you seem like you might be worrying way way too fuckin much.....its good to have discussion but Im betting once you put the rearsets on, you will get used to them pretty quickly.
By the way....got any photos of your bike?? We like pictures!!
Haha, thanks for the welcome! I'm not worried about anything really; I just like to do due diligance for something that costs $300 and might not provide any benefit for me. I wasn't ever concerned with scraping the pegs until Bubba suggested this could be an issue (why I asked what bike he had because everything on SVRider indicated the SV650s won't scrape).
Now, the exhaust was a whole separate issue that I brought up, but I was just trying to learn while we were on the topic of scraping hard parts.
At any rate, I like this forum a lot already! I'll get some pics up ASAP..
I raced an SV with a stock exhaust and that never scraped.
I wasn't going anywhere near Pete's pace but I wasn't exactly slow either.
Here's my baby. I've since removed the frame stickers (except for VIN plate) for a cleaner look.
Right side (on stands)
Left side (on rear stand)
Right side
Back (gives an idea of LSL superbike bar position)
Penske 8983 and EK SRX chain
Left/rear angle (shiny sprocket carrier and chicken strips haha!)
I think the Woodcrafts will look great. I'm also considering installing the M4 Titanium muffler with Carbon end cap. I might also start blacking out the various silver bits like the top triple clamp/risers, handlebars, levers, sprocket carrier, radiator side covers, etc..

Who has the best price for the Woodcraft rearsets? Looks like Revzilla and Sportbike Track Gear are both $305. Of course, I'll check with Woodcraft themselves since they're local (I'll mention you steered me there, Pete!). I plan to take a vacation day before the season's over and stop by to check out their shop anyway and might leave with a set if they have them available.
The whole "will possibly scrape" thing is exclusively on me. It is entirely possible I have no fucking idea what I am talking about (once again). I am new-ish to the sport-bike thing and have spent most of my life on standards and whatever we call the V-Strom.
I thought it was worthy of mention. It seems that is not the case. I respectfully retract my concern. Party on Garth.
Edit: And that is a damned good looking motorcycle.
Indeed. Go direct. They'll likely have the best price OR extremely close to it and shipping is so quick you practically need a stopwatch to get accurate delivery time.

No worries, man. It's always good to have different perspectives! I haven't stopped learning about my bike since I got it and I'm always open to learning about other bikes too.
Thanks for the compliment too! I really think the SV is a badass bike, even being only a 650 with standard forks and all.. Unfortunately it sits under a cover outside (and sometimes in the rain) so it usually doesn't look that nice. I take pictures after any mod and after I clean the bike so I always have them to obsess over, especially over the winter.
Sheppo and Oreo: I definitely plan to go through them direct unless they're much pricier than online outfits. I assumed direct would be around the same since there are no distributors, middle men, etc. to deal with. Plus it supports our local economy, right.
Do they have parts and/or manufacturing at their office in Winchendon? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to ride an hour there to check it out and get to know the folks there..
