Well, finally sold my bike, for just what I wanted ($2900, which is $300 more than I paid for it).

But now I'm streetbikeless...... time to find a beater (beet, got any advice?)

yeah, being a poor college student with the prospect of an unpaid internship this summer, i'm looking to spend well under $300 (yeah, that's three hundred) if at all possible... Actually, it doesn't even have to work ALL the time, just most of the time, provided it's cheap enough

Perhaps you there "employed" fellas haven't looked for super cheap bikes in a while... I know there are some beat up 80's nighthawks or similar UJMs slowly freezing up in sheds out there, I just gotta find 'em...

and, since I'm not much of a poser in the first place, and niether my pride nor my sense of manhood is directly related to the shinyness of the bike I ride ( ), I'll be perfectly happy riding a rat bike. I've done it before, and will likely do it again.

(already got at least one bike I'd like to go see)

Besides, if you only had a few hundred bucks to spend on a bike, what would you do? Give up riding, or go out there and make it happen? I certainly know what I'm gonna do.

While I applaud your intention of keeping on two wheels, perhaps one should seek out a part-time job that will put some money in your pocket, as well as the prospective internship? I realize with school that's a HELL of comment, but...

    Now in regards to your
pride nor my sense of manhood is directly related to the shinyness of the bike I ride
, I pay a mortgage, TWO brand new vehicle payments, and all the extra bills that accompany those three, as well as supporting a wife and two children. Now, yeah, you could say "It's my job to." But I don't work 80 to 90 hours a week NOT to enjoy my earnings...I pride myself on being ABLE to.

We were merely having at laugh at the attempt to secure, one should guess, a RELIABLE $300.00 bike.

I'm a ratbike addict through and through. The problem with ratbikes isn't that they are cheap, it's that they require money fairly consistantly.

I'll keep my eyes open for ya, I've gotten all of my UJM's for $300 or less and I seem to attract cheap project bikes.

There is plenty'o'work for college kids up in Keene, so if it ever came to it, you'd be all set for some extra dimbf to spend on parts.

I know, and I was just making myself feel better about potentially riding a really ratty, unreliable bike by having a laugh at shiny sportbike posing folk

Oddly enough, most likely I'll be re-roofing my family's garage in NH for spare cash, but it's fiberglass sheets, not shingles.

Oh, and beet, I'm looking to spend in the under-$300 range here (and I couldn't make myself buy a kawasaki anyway, I mean, I said I'd ride a ratbike, but come on now)
