I blame Doc.
I Concur with "bostoniannu"
I prefer to wear my leathers and not need them rather than need them and not have them on instead hanging in the closet miles away .
I just got used to wearing them laterly, yes I get the weird looks at the stop signs or red light but who cares what other think it is my health and well being at stake ,once saw bikers take off their helmets as soon as they cross the state line into NH last June ,cool I said at first but the thought of kissing tar at 65mph made me keep my helmet on until we got to 5mph at Bike week .
but hey it is a free Country right ...
All the rides I've been on have had it's share of fully suited, to t-shirt and jeans and everywhere in between. Nobody usually says anything to make you feel uncomfortable either way. Everyone I've ridden with have been pretty cool and friendly.
I personally started accumulating gear slowly as I could afford it and think a lot of new riders do the same. I first bought summer gloves followed by a jacket then gauntlet gloves followed later by pants and then boots.
Someone has said to me (and I personally notice this, too) that you tend to feel more comfortable riding aggressively if you're geared up because you have the confidence that you'll be better protected. I don't drag a knee, but I'll ride pretty hard when we get in the curves, but that's the other nice thing about group rides on here, you ride at your own pace and comfort zone.
Just thought I'd add my 2cents.
For what it's worth -- while no one should feel awkward about wearing "track" gear on street rides, it's nevertheless understood that some people might feel a little silly wearing brightly-colored one-piece race leathers on the street. There's no good reason for this, of course, but then there's also no good reason for anyone to feel silly wearing unfashionable clothes, and yet some people do.
For those for whom this is a concern and who are willing to make the investment in an extra set of leathers, there's plenty of gear available that still offers high-level protection but looks less Power Rangerish on the street. For instance, do you REALLY need knee-pucks for street riding? Pants like these look much more subdued while still offering excellent protection:

They're still armored, they're still A*, they just project a much more subdued image.
Just pointing out that wearing good gear doesn't necessarily mean looking like a Power Ranger.

What is wrong with the Power Rangers?

Not a fan of her face ... but thats what paper bags were made for right?
I would! GO GO Power Rangers!
I wear the following:
Helmet
Gloves (gauntlet)
Jacket (Leather in cooler weather, textile in hot weather)
Over ankle boots
I've been thinking about buying draggin jeans to add to my protection because I know regular jeans offer no protection. Probably will buy a pair next paycheck.
Sex. And Gear.
Two topics that never grow old.
(Will this get 'cleaned up'? I always miss the good stuff...)
Lol never said I wouldn't have sex with her all I stated was I didn't think she has the greatest looking face
Good point, this guy was probably very comfortable on his bike before he hit the road. :mope:
(stolen from word's ot nice gear post)
OP If you ever end up riding with me or the people I enjoy riding with you'll not be out of place in full leathers.

After reading this story I made up my mind to get my daughter a two piece (Thank You Adrenilinechic). She just turned 16 and wants to start riding on her own. I'm making her wait until next season so she can get at least a year in the cage and she now has all the gear and no bike. When she does get a bike first some parking lot training, then MSF, then some road time. then to some trackdays. :shredder: I can't wait.
