    SS1K Anyone?

I've been thinking about trying this:

    http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2009/SS1K/NashuaNH.html

May 16, 1000 miles in 1 day, sanctioned by the Iron Butt Association, $45. That's only $1.88/hr, or a nickel a mile!

    Anyone else interested?

i like the concept of this but the route kinda sucks. basically masspike and then 90 to wards canada. 1000 miles on the highway on a motorcycle seems pretty dumb just to say you did it. boring.

    Re: SS1K Anyone?

The problem with an ss1k is the hours to miles ratio on backroads gets pretty tight. I've mapped out a few but even being aggressive or taking fireroads through maine, add a couple uncertainties or so and you're on the road for 20 hours. yuck.

The highway does get boring after a few hours though, not disagreeing by any means . I wouldn't even consider doing one of these unless I had an aftermarket seat (at least on my GS that is the case).

I think they have two routes, but only experienced IBers can do the other one, which is entirely within NH. This route is intentionally simple for first timers.

I view it as a marathon compared to a sprint (racing). Not as thrilling as wicking it up in the twisties, but challenging your endurance. Definitely not for everyone, but then again, neither is racing.

If I could swap around my oncall weekends some I might be able to do this, but it's fairly unlikely.

I kind of want to do one just to be able to say I've done one, but like manny said it's all highway, and I don't exactly look forward to highway riding.

Done an IB on my HD, never on my ZX. but the fact that the start point is 135 miles from my house, thats an additional 270 miles added to the trip
