Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
Riding to work almost makes work worth attending...
I'll probably stop in early for a quick slice.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
I'll be there on the GIXXXAHH

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
I'll be there, and I'm going to bring along this jacket if someone is interested.
I bought it for my wife but it's the wrong size so if someone doesn't need it I'll just ship it back.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
Great turnout tonight. Especially considering we were missing Mark, Paul, Keith('s bike), Parker, John, etc. 60-65 bikes tonight.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
So I think noise is becoming a bigger problem. I was talking to my officemate, who lives in the Mill but all the way around the corner, pretty much as far away from Bike Night as you can be in the Mill, and he said that for about 15 minutes he couldn't even hear the TV because of the bikes being annoying. I've asked him about it before and he's never really heard anything. It's only a matter of time before we start getting complaints that begin to get acted on. We need to talk to the people that feel the need to bounce off the rev limiter or just rev the shit out of their engines for no reason. It's rude to those that put time into bike night, it's rude to the neighbors, and it's going to hurt all of us if we don't stop it.

That needed to be said. At one point the noise was absolutely ridiculous. We saw a number of people looking out their windows, obviously not impressed. Would not surprise me if that keeps up if Winooski PD might not be as friendly as they have been to us.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
Yeah, pretty obnoxious. I don't know what to do about it though besides maybe invite the PD to babysit between 7 and 8.
There was easily 20 bikes that all left at the same time doing that. We could talk to each of them, but we all know that at least one of them will ignore us and as soon as one person starts revving, they all will.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
We have to get them on the way in if they do it then. Try and be polite but be firm. "I am not trying to be a jerk, but we've been getting a lot of complaints from the neighbors about the noise, and the local PD said that if we don't cut it out then we won't be welcome back here anymore. I hope you understand, we don't want to lose Bike Night." Doesn't matter if it stretches the truth a little bit, if they aren't threatening to kick us out now, it is only a matter of time.

Maybe some signs as well would help. At least, show the BN regulars sincerely care & do not condone the noise. It is only a matter of time before people complain. You all are entirely correct. If not address, BN could be difficult. that would be sad... :(

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
Best thing to do is what we did the past, IMHO...around 7, gather everyone up, and give a mass briefing about noise and being courteous to the community. And also go over what BBN is all about, try to keep the focus of the mission statement we whipped up a few years ago.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
We should also use Craig. The guys that rev the piss out of their bikes before leaving are all friendly with Craig, I'm not saying that they're not friendly with the rest of us but they know Craig personally.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
For someone with such an orderly list, Craig sure has some rowdy friends.

Some people think the rev limiter is an impervious wall protecting your engine...think again. :mope:

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
Zoinks today is Bike Night ... Sadly, I will not be able to attend due to a meeting I must attend at the high school tonight so my middle daughter will have senior privileges.
Since I could only be there for the first 10 minutes & driving my capable but lame-ass minivan, I will have to see everyone next week.
In the meantime, please submit suggestions for a soundtrack, theme or background music that would be appropriate for Burlington Bike Night as I will start working on some sweeper & event announcements for my little radio show. I am going to bring a digital recorder next week to do some interviews & get some sound bites. I will start a separate thread to collect all of the advice & helpful suggestions.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
No mention yet of last night's surprise guest? Then again I'm pretty much out of the loop so maybe it wasn't a surprise to everyone, but surprise or not it certainly was great to see Mark at Donny's. Pretty remarkable considering what he's been through.

Re: Burlington Bike Night (Every Tuesday from 5:30-8pm)
I showed up in the rain and there were already 10 bikes there. Not bad! We had 20 bikes last night and stayed inside the first half of the evening.
Great seeing Mark on his feet (sorta).

That's awesome! Good job Mark - very impressive.
Wish I could have been there to see ya. Keep on keeping on...

Does anybody have any ramps that I could borrow tomorrow? I need to get a snowblower out of a truck, and I don't have anything. a couple of 2x6 boards that are long enough would be plenty.
