Short and sleazy:
I crashed the Mille at the Chris Peris Race School last month with a day and a half left to ride. I was lucky enough to be able to jump on another bike to finish out the school...a bone stock '97 Kawasaki ZX-6R. My SV was faster than this thing! But I learned a lot from riding that bike, along with outclassing just about everyone else who was on a 600 that day...just not on the front straight!
I'd been thinking of selling the Mille and getting into a 600 i4 jap bike set-up for track/race only. The crash was not bad, but it did help me iron out my decision to get into some thing smaller, newer, and more competitive, along with having a long discussion with one of the instructors about the pros of racing a middleweight instead of a big twin after having the track entirely to ourselves for 5 laps.
SO, here she is. 2007 Yamaha R6.
Graves full Ti system
GPR Damper
20mm Ohlins front end kit
Ohlins shock
Vortex rear-sets/clip-ons
Morse GP Composites body work (2 full sets)
Stock motor with a Rapid Bike engine tuner
While I would have liked some other goodies on the bike, its a great set-up and I am very excited to be back on a 600. Its going to be a nice change! I do love the twins, but I really was not excited by looking into another SV.
She's going to the Dyno this week and then Im heading to the track on Sat to see what all the hype about a 17.5k Redline is all about!
She needs a name too...

Nice ride and don't use that strap with aftermarket clip ons I sheered the pin that keeps the throttle from moving with one...I use the Anchar straps now no issue...
I love mine but with stock clip ons...

TUESDAY...!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys, Im pretty excited. The season started last month. I have a couple different choices for events. There are 2 tracks that run their own race series, and then the CCS schedule this year has added INDE MSR along with continuing events at Firebird.
Not yet, but hopefully soon to a friend of mine out here. You want it?![]()

Nice pick up, congrats! Now track the hell outta it![]()
Brought her down to the shop last week, tossed a Bazzaz in and got her tuned to 115 and 43...not bad for a little 600. Mounted and stickered up the other set of body-work, tossed on my new gently used Dunlops and had a blast at my TD. She hauled ass and handled great. After I wrapped my head around the bike, it was MUCH more comfortable to ride at a decent pace.
I picked up a set of brand new Shift Vertex leathers as well for a steal of a price, so I had to break those in...the right way ;D.
Like this?
Is that a Boston Moto sticker? MmmmmHmm!

A few updates on the bike and such.
Got my CCS SouthWest license this past weekend after succesfully completing the New Racers Clinic and not crashing in the rookie race! However, such things cannot happen without my unflappable flare for the dramatic. This was the first weekend of actual racing at the track, so there were no grid lines. Well, I thought as we were gridding up for the "mock race" that I was too close to the guy on my right. As I start to move the bike, I hear everyone start to rev up, and I look up to see the marshall throw the green flag "race on"! OH SHIT, for whatever reason, I shifted into 3rd, and almost stalled the bike. At this point, I'm all alone on the grid, as all the 8 other riders take off. I finally get her into 2nd gear and sloooowly make it up to 10k rpm where I can finally have some HP!
Now, the boys from our local performance shop that work on my bike, along with everyone elses from WERA, CCS, ASRA, and AMA, are all up in the tower to see how Billy does on his little 600...lets just say they were very impressed with my starting procedures.
Even though it was just the rookie race, I had to make up for my more than embarassing start. So off I went. I've got 4 laps to try and make it into an admirable 3rd, maybe 2nd with 1st really out of reach. Keep in mid that the course is 2.75 miles with 21 corners. I had time to make up some ground, and by lap 3, I had a shot at taking the inside line on a guy coming off the straight, which is a hard, fast, right hander similar to T1 at NHMS. The pass was questionable for a race that didnt matter...at all...but dammit I needed redemption.
I ended up all by myself, crossing the finish in a solid second place, about 4 seconds off a Kawi 10R (whom after checking his lap times, I would have def passed if I had a even a decent start).
Tony, Phil, and Scott all had a good laugh, along with everyone else I met. "Oh, you were on the red R6! Nice start!"
I am offically licensed, AM #225. I didn't end up racing on Sunday for a number of reasons, but the bike will be 100% sorted and ready to go for the next round at INDE in Sept. From the times guys were posting, I'm right in the mix of things...as long as I can get a good start ;D.
I'm hanging out with the fast guys, so that has to count for something. Between my good friend Tony Scott, and fellow MW contender Alex Thompson, they posted four 1st places, and one 2nd. Lets hope I can snag some of their fast.
License is in the mail!

Time to get a new helmet bud. I've got the same one & mine hits the 5 year rule next month.
Bike looks good, but you're still ugly
That pic of you draggin with one hand pointing at the cam is pretty sweet!
You should make that starting procedure your signature move. Hell, next time, dont even start the bike before the gang is gone. way more room to get a good launch then!
