    Re: VT Pitbike racing

Vince and his boss? Were you talking to little Vince? 'Cause Vince the elder IS the boss. : )

That said, a 1.6/1.4 rim isn't as limiting as you'd think. The big limitation is avoiding low profile tires. You need that sidewall height to mask the narrow rim and allow for a decent profile. Dunlop TT91 120/80 and 100/90 12" tires mount up beautifully on narrow rims for example. Yeah the profile doesn't match what I get on my 2.75" rear and 2.5" front rims but it's still damn usable. When you try to use a 70 or 60 profile or shorter that's when they get real ugly.

Oh, next time you talk to Vince, tell him 'Kurlon' said 'Hi'. He's the guy that helped me a ton when I was taking mini's serious with my initial 70's development as well as convincing me to drive to New Jersey to try dirt out for the first time. Damn good guy in my book.

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

Really? I grew up riding trail bikes and then graduated to dirt bikes. I had a serious crash on a dirt bike when I was 16 and just started to ride again 3 years ago. I jut got my Ninja in June but I think Id have more fun on a pitbike. What do recommend for a bike?

Recommending a pitbike is kinda tough without knowing what you intend to do with it. Road racing, Super Moto, MX, SX, putt putt in the back yard? : )

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

A pocket bike is MUCH smaller.

Typical pocket bikes use 6.5" wheels, have no suspension or gearbox, and a 39cc or 50cc two stroke motor.

A 'pitbike' is normally defined as an air cooled horizontal single cylinder four stroke mounted in an open cradle frame with wheels no bigger than 14" in front and 12" in back. Honda CRF50 is the small end of the scale, a Pitster Pro LXR 14 or KLX 110L being the large end of the scale. Lots of variations on the theme, some targeting dirt, some pavement, some road legal even.

Cyclewise currently has a very sweet little street-legal CRF150, in case anyone's interested.

Little Vince I'm guessing, as he just wanted to make sure he could split up a set for me (not something they regularly do...understandably). He was amazingly helpful in answering my questions too.

When you can fit said bike under your arm like a gaudy purse...

The bikes they are selling are generally referred to as 'CAG's. Aka cheapie chinese units. You'd be better served seeing if someone in the area has european origin machine they'd sell cheap. (Gino?). Odds are you can get one for less than what you'd pay to buy and ship a CAG, and finding parts will be easier. The biggest bonus is you'll spend more time riding than wrenching, which can't be said of CAGs.

In other news, I know of a 2004 CRF70 that's had maybe two tanks of gas run through it according to the owner. $800 will snag it.

On the Rocky Ridge day, VT is a bit of a haul for me at the moment so I'll have to pass for now.

    how many miles on it?

the pitbike is much more forgiving than the 2fiddy.
you totally should get one and learn on that then you'll be fine on the 2fiddy, if you decide to keep it.

Just wanted to hop in here and say thanks to the guys that showed up at the BoxShop track day. Hope you had fun.

End of the day, we had a small awards ceremony for the NEMM series, so I'd like to give a big thanks to them for stepping up and supporting the club. Great competitors as well.

    In no particular order...

Chris at Full Throttle Motor Sports
    Matt at Tannermatic (composite/fiberglass bodywork)
    REV'IT!
    Spectro Oils

Hope I'm not forgetting anyone. Great sponsors, great competitors.

Hope you guys can make it out next year.

    Some pics:

That's all I really took. Too busy having fun. Had my helmet cam with me, forgot to get it out.

Yeah, that's a very cool bike. I don't know much about it. 1980-ish Sach 50cc. Side rotary valve, 6 speeds.
