nice pic KW, where was it? I have no idea where that last one was. Looks like a radar dome so I'm guessing airfield somewhere.

Gmap updated! It's up in snalbans JC.
I grab the bike to go get this tag but can't find my primary key. Reach for my spare and hit the road. I'm on the interstate when I realize that it has been a while since my last gas up but there is no way to tell exactly how long it has been as my odometer & gas light are both on the fritz.
To make matters worse, there is no way to get to my gas cap with my spare key as the luggage locker bag blocks access and the luggage locker key is with my primary key.
I decide to take my chances and press on.
About 100 yards from the tag I see another bike roll into view. It is kwil263 and he probably got there 3 minutes ahead of me.
We take some photos and head out. I'm secretly glad he got there first as I wanted to plant the tag far away and would've spun the how-much-fuel-is-left roulette wheel doing so.
Three miles from home, I run out of gas in front of a Mobil station. With no way to open the gas cap I had to call my girlfriend for a lift.
That's my story!

Looks like a cold war era restaurant sign. Were the barracks here?

This thing says "Patriot" on it.

Many bullet holes but the doors still wouldn't open. This building had an active power meter on the outside. Spooky.

Nice pics once again, and thanks for taking some of my bike.
Next tag is here:
hint: in between Fairfax and Cambridge
is there some spray paint on that thing, visible from the road that says "I love big tits" perchance.
if its not there now, it was once.
Are you serious? That would take cohones. There are LOTS of warnings all around and at least one camera aimed at the gate.
i was talking about Kwil's photo. i'm 90% sure I know where it is.
I did read somewhere that this radar installation originally belonged to Plattsburgh AFB, and there were barracks for the operators nearby. The building you found is probably them.
Speaking of radar... do any of you guys have access to a dual-sport bike and the desire to go check out a really old radar site? The issue here is that a true DS bike is the only kind that will be able to make it there -- needs to be at least as skinny as an XR650L. Street bikes won't be able to make it.

Got it.

Better pic to come, along with new tag.

Better pic here of old tag (the iPhone's camera isn't bad for a cell phone, but it's still pretty shitty).

And here's the new tag:

Awesome day for a ride today.

Hmm... <crickets>
Bump.

I know where it is, just no time to get there yet. I hope to add mine soon.
I am not getting close to that Mine.
i have a couple ideas on that location, but nothing firm.
need a bigger hint besides mine.
Asbestos man!!
:spit:
As for the location of my tag... you don't have to actually enter the grounds. So no worries. Although I have, and I'm still alive.
To make this really easy for everyone, there are even a lot more pics if you go to ADVrider and look for threads I've started.

This thread really makes me miss VT :(
If I had a DS??? Hell ya. I'd be in for that.
Anyone know where there are old abandoned, open to the public, missile silos to check out?
......well, Plattsburg, Atlas silos in swanton and alburg. Wonder if they are still around or were demolished
http://www.siloworld.com/556thSMS/PLATTSBU.HTM
I heard there is one in Haverhill NH area, but its still in use. Probably not a good idea to head to that one.
Also if anyone is interested in ghost towns, this one in NY isn't too far away, and has a lot of building left. We should go check it out
http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ny/...adirondak.html
The Alburg silo is flooded out, you can't even enter the first hallway to the LCC, but you can see into the shaft from the grate up top and some of the buildings that are still there.
The Swanton silo is used by either the town highway department or some construction company to park their trucks, and the gate is normally locked, so I don't know if you can access that one.
Ahem...
Start here (my part of the report starts on page 2):

Then go here and read to the end:

None of the silos are open to the public. A few of them, including Alburg, are town garages, the rest are privately owned, and all but three are flooded.
There is no nuclear missile silo in Haverhill -- maybe a radar or surface-to-air or something, no idea, but the 12 Atlas-F silos around Plattsburgh AFB are the only nuclear missile silos east of the Mississippi.

markbvt does and does and does!

Wow really cool of Alex to let you and Questor check the silo out. I know some have been converted into homes, I'd do the same if I had one. Also nice to see it wasn't demolished, I know a lot of those sites had a run in with s crap load of high explosives.
I'd be in la la land like you if I got to check out something like that. I'm jealous and then some.
So if anyone wants to check out that ghost town in NY, lets crank it up :beerbang:
Those are some cool pictures Mark! I'd love to visit some abandoned silos, I've driven past the one in alburg (I think?), but never been inside something like that. Got that post-apocalyptic "fallout" feel to it!
