Because they were half watt? Or because of the size? Radio-smack didn't have?

Went to RS and they had a designated cubby for them but none in stock. They had all sorts of other sized resistors -- just not the one I needed. I found a local shop that carries them. Will be stopping by later today. I cancelled my order online.

On resistor/electronics topic: if you have to order such things check out Newark Electronics. They will fill just about any quantity big or small and I've yet to run across components they don't have. I use them a lot at work, most orders arrive within 2-3 days. Think of it as Amazon for electronics.

Re: No 100 day countdown to LRRS?

16 days, 16 days to go!!!

Got the final supplies to wire my trailer last night. Major install tonight.

Bleed brakes on the bike later this week and lock wire the final few things then shes done.

Next week will be packing the trailer and getting food/camping stuff together. Maybe, just maybe I can be ready with a few days of free time which I have lost concept of.

15 Days and it will be track time.

Trailer electrical is on track. Conduit is almost all mocked up, 2nd shop light is in, race suit hanger hook thing is in.

Still need to figure out what I want for a shelf above my work bench, hard to do with a soft V trailer which is 8.5 feet wide. You end up with a bit of non useable space.

    14 days to go

Trailer has shore power now. Overhead lights work, just need to button up some of the wiring and build some shelves.

Bike is 99% done as well.

    11 days to go

Trailer is done, for now, still have some stuff I would like to do but that will have to wait.

Bike just needs brake fluid and body work needs to go back on.

Then its time to pack the trailer.

Panic is officially setting in... I've shot myself in the foot by being late getting my suspension to Peter Kates... motard may not make round 1.

The FZR is good to go, just needs fresh tires which are already lined up.

I'm almost done. I keep messing around with the wiring for the Trail Tech Vapor tach I bought. I can't get good enough reading on the RPMs by wrapping a wire around the spark plug wire. I tried to tap directly into the coils but my connections were crummy and came off. It doesn't help the wire is like 18 or 20 gauge at least. So not a lot of wire for the connector to hold on it.

Re: No 100 day countdown to LRRS?

What kind of connection do the coils use? Spade connectors, single fancy plug, etc? Instead of trying to tap the wires, I prefer to just make an inline jumper for that sort of thing. If using crimp connectors make sure you're using the right size for the wire gauge and if need be, strip twice the insulation off you need, then bend the exposed wire in half back on itself to double up the strand that you're crimping. That said, I'm floored a good tight coil on a plug wire didn't do the trick.

The coils on the SV use spade like connections. I think my problem was not having the right size connector. And I tried stripping twice the insulation. It's a really thin wire. The smallest option to strip the wire on my pliers is still too big.

Two options: Use a good knife to hold the wire down on a hard surface like a table while you pull the wire underneath. Takes some practice to learn how much pressure to just yank the insulation off without actually cutting the wire. Plan B, don't tell your dentist but use your teeth.

How many times did you wrap it around the plug? (this makes a difference) Also is your Gen 2 sv a single or dual plug motor? Reason I ask on that is you will have to set pulse per rotation of the crank in the Vapor gauge. I know with my Koso digital tach I had to reset the pulse per rotation count. So look into that as well.

Wrapped the rear plug wire probably 8-10 times.

My gen 2 has one plug per head (2003-2006 I think).

There is an option to set the pulse per rotation. The default is 1 PPR and I didn't change this setting. Frankly I don't know where to find this information.

You know the RPM your bike idled at before, roughly, right?

What you'll see on the Vapor will be one of three things:

    1) Half of what you expect, reduce the pulse per rotation count.
    2) Spot on, congrats!
    3) Twice what you expect, increase the pulse per rotation count.

Your bike is likely a one pulse per rotation event animal, but some times with four strokes the wasted spark event doesn't get seen by the tach when using an inductive pickup method. Something something no pressure in the cylinder so spark jumps way easier blah. Just as easy to feel the setting out than it is to go nutter trying to find the details and then scratch your head wondering why it's reading wrong.

Edit: Gen 2... EFI, may not be wasted spark, so 1 pulse every 2 revs... maybe.

I also have a PC3 to check RPMs against. That's how I know it's wonky. I think Vapor was reading about 1K lower from the PC3 at 5K RPM (going by PC3). The PC3 is hooked up to the coils, so I trust that reading. And I expect that gap to widen at higher RPMs.

4k RPM reading at 5k RPM? That's rather odd... was the Vapor's reading bouncing around or steady matching the PC3's readout?
