Before I plough money into my GS500E, figured I'd take a quick look to see if my preferred PTwins machine is available...
Anyone got a Ducati 620 SuperSport available on the cheap? : ) I know I saw a yellow one for sale by the garages at the last 07 LRRS weekend...
The yellow one was not cheap. I think he wanted $3000.
You might ask Hobbs (pastarocket) if he can find you a salvaged one.

If your goal is just to be different, I'm pretty sure the Honda Ass-Scoot is legal for PTWNs as well.
In other news, the EX Mafia just contacted me with an offer of $5, a bag of skittles, and a billy goat if I kill anyone who tries to race a Ducati in PTwins.![]()
$10 if it's Doc![]()
Darrell you will be happy to note that I will not be running a Duc 620 in Ptwins (as much as I would like to).
I am sure you will have no qualms however about me racing my lil YSR 50 against your big bad EX500 in Ptwins.![]()

Is your YSR a "twin"?![]()
With a Banshee motor it is!
Ducati 620's are a little hard to get, but 620 monsters are available everywhere.
Hrmmm... Monster 620's don't interest me as much for a PTwins machine (I'm picky!), but I've got a friend that would love a project Monster, I'll direct him to you if you've got something in mind.
While we're on the subject, do the earlier style 750 Super Sports show up very often? There is something about the half-faired CRs that just turns me on.
I had a 1992, I never should have gotten rid of it. The again I am saying that aboout my 900ss...
Cheap or Picky, you can't be both.

The old 750s are available used and cheap, but not on this board. You need to search some ducati friendly forums. I had a 750 monster and it was barely a match for and EX500 on the straight... not a fast bike, and not ptwins legal. The 620s are reportedly about the same as far as acceleration. The monster is a tough choice for racing as clearance problems require really messing with the riding position. the 620SS is a rare bird, but if anyone can get it, it's BCM. Of course their not going to be cheap.
If I got a 750 it wouldn't be for PTwins, it'd be a compliment to my ST3 for road use. I know how slow they are, and just don't care. I rode one off and on in the course of diagnosing some weird intermittent electrical problems and just loved the feel of the bike. It was comfortable, light, and just a blast to tool around on.
That said, I also enjoyed tooling around on the GS500 for one day making sure it was somewhat all there... although the clubmans that are on it have to go. They aren't wide enough to clear the clamps, so they can't be rolled forward into their proper position, they kill my wrists in short order right now. If I keep the GS, I'm going to race prep it with the intention of returning it to street duty eventually as a play machine should LRRS not have a home after this year due to track changes, which is the theory some are floating.
Sounds like you are a little behind... are you actually gonna race or not?

I'm racing, and unless a 620SS magically appears it'll be on the GS. Just making a final sweep of my options before uncorking my wallet on the GS*. : )
(* Pending a dyno run/compression test on the GS to make sure it's really sound.)
You could always sell the GS to a street noob and buy my other Hawk project. CHEAP.

Hawk's aren't PTwins legal I thought, they're a 650 liquid cooled motor right?
Right but as a novice they let you race em in LWSS, ULSB, LWSB... I think I may have ran Ptwins once or twice...
They are really an ULSB.

McBigity (Sp?) is selling that EX 500 which seems to be the BEST deal going for Ptwins

If I wanted an EX I would have had one by now. That path is closed to me. : )
So, to close the thread out, no 620SS's floating loose, on to testing the GS it is.

The GS isn't competitive..and you'll be the only one there with one. Listen to the board, EX500 is the way to go in PTwins..TONS of people have them, and there is a boat load of knowledge in the paddock if you run into trouble, never mind spares if you wad it.
I certainly do dumb things with money, like trying to race a stock 750ss against SVs. But, I'd advise against putting any money into a GS to race it, you'd be much further along to buy an EX with 17" wheels - AND you can sell it if you're not into racing.
