or if you are a dummy like me, you just get graphics done up without looking at the rule book...luckily I showed a13x the mockup and he pointed out that I couldn't have border around red numbers and they should be spaced out cuz they were touching.

you'll understand once yuo have a bike with numbers

jk, no - it's not much of a big deal at all - but lrrs has been kind in the past, and passed numbers that are legible and identify the rider/bike. So, just another way to make your bike individual - everyone has their own likes/dislikes in part brands, paint colors, paint schemes... to me this is no different so I dont understand why people are upset about numbers they can read. Can you read the number? Yes. nuff said

the rules also state the size of the numbers - I couldn't count on my fingers and toes how many pepole have to run smaller numbers to make them fit on their bike. but hey - lets play by the rules... I want to make sure everybody is running bill-boards screwed to your tails this year

The rears are allowed to be 6inches. The fronts are supposed to be 8. My fronts are illegal cause they're six. I always come up short

6" numbers dont fit on the tails of many bikes easily - 8" numbers? bwahaha. I think aerodynamics of the bikes have changed a bit since the rules were written.

8" numbers work well if you are RC or someone and your number happens to be 1

I just reviewed - there should be no problems with them - they are near 1" wide and clearly legible. I dont see the restrictions. If people are whining because they dont fit the "example" please review 80% of the bikes with "1's" and get back (oxx is the only one i know of with the tab cut off his "1")

p.s. did I mention that the numbers we have for the season are quite a bit different (i'll wait and let you guys decide if they are better or worse)? these ones were used for the bike show the painter wanted it for - hey... if somebody is painting a tedious scheme like mine for free fifty, he can use whatever font he wants.

in seriousness though, the ones in the pic are more legible than the ones we used last year and those worked well.

WTF is with NESR ?!? haha I dont get the people who care about this shit so much haha - I never looked at an R6 with a 3", 4", and 5" number for a front number and felt like logging into the internet to complain about it

    Kitt,

Just to point out (as a graphic designer) there is a HUGE difference between number size and a 'artistic' font. Making a standard font smaller doesn't fuck up people's ability to read said number nearly as much as a nonstandard 'artistic' font does.

People, like the WERA board racers, are giving you shit because it's a stupid place to flaunt your individuality. You have your fairing, leathers, helmet, etc to look cool. The numberplate is one of the few places where you are asked to keep it simple and as legible as possible. The people doing manual scoring, working the corners, trying to identify your bike in a accident etc aren't getting paid much (if anything) and it's sort of like a slap to the face.

Some bikes have had to make the numbers smaller due to shrinking fairing size but everyone tries to keep it as clear as possible giving the constraints in size. You aren't.

I know you say it's just as legible at speed, but again, everyone is seeing it sitting still and going 'this guy is just being obstinate'

thanks for ur honest - non ass response. I can dig that, still think it should be about legibility (it's a slap to the face to the scorers for using a different number seems like a stretch). The numbers were used for a show, they will not be the "example #'s" from the rule book, but they will have no "broken or tattered" edges or looks to them.

The problem with that, is whats legible to one person, might not be for another. And when was the last time you read your numbers while they were doing 100mph leaned into 1? I think thats more the issue.
