I don't get how you are tapped in 4th though, your bike is 4spd meaning you'd hit the limiter on the front straight in 4th bad wouldn't you? I am in 4th on my crf, if I stay in 3rd over the hill I hit limiter.

I come to a stop. Get off the bike. Walk it down track until I'm pointed toward ten. Hop back on and then run wot into the flag station.

Are you laughing because its pink? Thats awesome because it makes me laugh too!
I've ridden a few endo's into T9 before.
Boston --> San Diego
Another thing about 9, that's where the best photos come from... I love the shots from there.
There's a sweet one of me on the tard from the July weekend that I might buy from owens. Still don't have a good one of me there on the R6... maybe next time if I can get back in the groove
You're braking that hard? wow

probably from checking up when someone is about to take his front wheel? aha, I know I had to do that several times last weekend but I dont think my rear came up

This is riding a EX and a SV so take it for what it's worth.
I definately am a lot faster through 9 than most of the people I race with. I can easily catch them through 8 and have to back off or I'm gonna ass-pack.
That said I brake HARD into 9 for the brief time the bike is mostly upright. If there is no one in front of me I'm leaning at the cone on the left, letting it drift wide while scrubbing speed, and definately pulling it back to the curbing just as I transition to the right hand in 10.
On the EX I grab a downshift, on the SV I don't, only because I am not comfortable shifting out of 10.
9 is probably my favorite place to pass. I drift a little wide when behind someone through 8, and then swing behind them to the outside of them in 9. It seems like you can just feel the available traction through there. Once you are next to someone there, just inch forward and they have to give you the line for 10.
As a sidenote, the cornerworkers said I crashed about the latest through 9 they have ever seen. I lost the rear right before picking it up for 10 and the bike and me hit the air fence right at the apex of 10. Nice and cushiony soft.![]()

On the MZ I wouldn't brake at all, because the engine braking from shutting the throttle along with the scrubbing/smaller diameter of the tires would slow me plenty.
On the ZX, I do what many have said they do; lightly apply the ffront brake to setting the bike (and brain).
Mark (ZX1012r) must be WFO much longer than most of us after T8 to need a handful of brakes. Mark is now my new hero, BTW.![]()
Mark is silly fast. You'd never know it was an EX the way he rides that thing...
What I wouldn't give for a tow around the track from Mark. I'm sure I'd pick up a second or two just from a couple lap tow seeing how he does stuff. Unfortunately it's tough to get on the track w/ an EX when you're NV.
You ever to track days Mark?![]()
Ill assume all these "I barely brake" people do use engine braking in place of brake braking though, right? Cause i dont engine brake anywhere except 3. Apaprently thats very strange from what I gather at dinner conversation last night. I just grab clutch and brake at the same time.
I engine brake into 1, 3, 6, 9 and 11.![]()

Engine braking? .... isn't that part of braking in general? Like Ken said, rolling off the throttle (and the engine braking of doing so) and feathering the brake is what settles the front end to let you flip the bike over for 9. Maybe I'm just thinking about things wrong, but in my eyes I can't even fathom the idea of relying on engine braking to slow down for a corner.

The MZ was a 660 single, so I had a lot of engine braking available, even more than the motards. Be careful not to coast too much (if at all). In a racing situation you should be either on the gas or braking. Which is why Mark is so fast-- WFO until you see God, then brake hard, then get back on the gas.
Do you have a slipper clutch in that pig?
If so, no clutch.
