went to the track today, and found out there will NOT be any power. if youve got a generator...bring it. the North garage most likely will have power but no where south of that. youve been warned.

dont count on it. word is that even though there may be electrical boxes in the infield, they may have locks on them. youre better off getting power somewhere else. hopefully the sound of 100 generators running all night will force them to open the electric boxes

Thanks for the heads up. I'm bringing a stitcher to repair Vanson suits and the the shit is too strong to stitch by hand.

even the media center was running an extension cord to run power for the SCCA nationals.

Is there going to be anywhere to camp/pit? Of course, if this keeps up it's not going to be an issue as they'll probably be able to fit all the racers in one stall of a garage.

What solution do you propose to work our tire warmers? Does Bugs have a gnerator for us?
Of course, you don't need to use tire warmers on rain tires.
What?
They are trying to make this place better. They could have told us to fuck off in 2009 while they did the work.
I'll deal with the construction for a couple weekends if it means I still get to race. Suck it up, we do road racing ... this isn't golf. Suit up and man up

Jamie,
While I hear what you're saying, problem is, does 2/3 of the track need to be shut down for a week or more? The answer is no.
I can nearly guarantee this is a result of union workers and the giant "hurry up and wait" game. (and I say this with plenty of exposure to union-driven projects)
Thing is, if you took L-R-R-S and turned it into N-A-S-C-A-R you can bet yer ass we'd have power everywhere in time for the event this weekend.
LRRS may draw little water to the track compared to other events but we do draw some water regardless.
saxman c'mon....we all pay a shitload of money to do this, i dont eat ramen noodles 5 days a week cause it taste good. The track isnt required to let us use elec but i see it as part of our $25 gate fee, plus it is a basic need for our sport, I will man up and suit up anyway but its kind of crazy that there will be no power period.
Listen, folks. They've been busting hump just to make sure the track wouldn't be dug up for the LRRS events. The original plan had temporary chicanes set up on the front straight and in the NASCAR oval. Complete with jersey barriers and tire walls.
NHMS has also worked it out with the contractor to start the turn 1/1A construction monday morning after our event and have it finished, paved and cured before our next event. That's commitment. They could have saved a lot of time and money by going with the original plan. NHMS made the decision to do it the hard way to keep the event safer for RACING.
Yeah, it sucks that camping and electric is limited for now. Everyone seemed to pull together last week, no reason it can't happen this week. Remember, most tracks farther down the coast don't have power. Generators are a way of life.
As far as showers, even if the infield restrooms don't have hot water, there's still the paddock and the ones outside the tunnels by turn 6.

i am glad to be racing, no doubt about it but heres another point. Do they plan to announce this stuff? i mean i didnt know the infield was half gone till i pulled in thurs morning the 1st wkend and i called everyone i could to let them know, heres the thing alot of us depend on that elec supply myself included, they only reason we know now because svracer just happened to swing by the track. You and i know some people will have no idea till they pull in fri/sat and go to hook up and there is nothing..then what......I wouldnt mind it so much as long as some kind of announcement is made via lrrs/nhms.com
Bergs,
I doubt any of the work going on is union.
Did you folk look at the infield? That sumbitch would make a great MX event. They've dug half way to China!
Unfortunately, the power cable run though those areas. They have to dig up most and cut power to others for safety. You can't run temp. construction power drops for public consumption. It's just not safe. Not only would it cost big $$$$$$, someone would do something dumb, get someone hurt and then sue.

I'm glad they made the decision to work around our races as far as any work that will affect the actual racing surface. And I realize that they are making major upgrades/improvements to the infield. Great. It needed help (some spots became mud pits with even the slightest rainfall).
However, like 699 said, an anouncement of some type would be nice. Thanks to Ox's update, I'll have at least one generator for this weekend.
