thanks for the love guys, it is great to see you all from inside the track. But if i get to close to you it means you messed up, but more than happy to help out.

I guess my motto is that i would rather meet you at the end of the day than during...

    Re: Cornerworkers

I tried corner working in 6 a couple years ago. I found that I am scared as shit running out on a hot track. Didn't think it would bother me that much.

I went to flagging instead! Lots of great action and relatively safe.

There is a job everyone can handle out there, and they don't force you past your comfort zone.

    Thanks, cornerworkers!

    Attention all cornerworkers:

Thanks for being there for us. I've hit the tarmac in traffic and had 2 workers running to me as bikes were whizzing by on both sides. You are all much appreciated.

I've helped cornerworking at trackdays in all locations except for the bowl. Seeing a bike coming at you full tilt into T3 is pretty unsettling.

If you're a fan of the racing consider cornerworking. We have the best seats in the house.

The link doesn't tell you how to sign up for the Marshalls. I'm interested in doing this this year. I've worked corners a couple of time for Moto Market and I love it.

    Re: Cornerworkers

It being my first weekend, I didn't really know, but I learned pretty quickly that it is customary to give them props during your cooldown, so I tried to do that all weekend.

I also meant to stop by the barbeque and thank whoever helped me with my bike (which was in a pretty hairy spot might I add) but didn't get a chance, I was making a couple repairs.

Anyways, hopefully things will calm down a bit for me in subsequent weekends and I can meet/thank you guys in person.

    Re: Cornerworkers

I love cornerworking, although only done it a few times. It's a great time. I get to watch the race from the best part of the track and get to play in traffic just like my dad always told me to

My first time ever responding to a crash I was so exited I tripped running from behind the jersey barrier and fell in gravel lol. Also seen the same guy crash twice in the same exact spot in the bowl on sat. (once on his ex once on his sons ex) and heard he crashed in the same spot again on sunday. It's good times

It always annoys me when racers dont acknowledge the corner workers .... I always try to give a thumbs up to them after everyrace..... without them we aren't on the track!

    Thanks guys and girls !

    Re: Cornerworkers

Scott ts funny I have the same thought process as you except in reverse... without you guys being out there running, I couldnt corner work. Its fun watching you guys battle. I worked my first race 2 years ago and I've missed 1 since... and by missed, I mean I still came up and watched and felt horrible I wasnt out there haha.

Its funny when you guys talk about us being nuts out there, I am one that might take a few more chances than most. Every corner has its risks that are a little different, ive jumped bikes sliding at me in 3, ive been buzzed in 3 by a couple at full speed (slow down at least a little please ) and theres been some interesting times running down some high siders in 4 before traffics slowed (one of which was union when he opened his tank like tuna). Scott I think I grabbed you off 11 once which is a rare occurrence (you were mumbling something about mystery oil in 11 ) lol

"I almost crashed once in the bowl waving to a corner worker. Now I just do the foot wave dealie thing." This happened Saturday when I was captaining in 12. Guy threw his leg up high coming through the bowl and it almost got ugly I have to admit, sometimes in 3 I mess with the rookies and get them to wave, it gets them a little squirly at times..

Im long winded but whatevs! Ive brought up 4 people who corner work from time to time and the way I usually position it is, you will see some incredible racing from the wrong side of the fence, you will dodge racing traffic and be running to places that the guys wearing the body armor and helmets are running away from. at the end of the day you will see why we do it, these guys are the most thankful bunch of people I have ever met. If you look thristy they are offering you water, if its dinner time they are offering you food, and any other time of day they are saying "thank you".

See you guys next race weekend!

P.S. most of you guys are good about it but if by chance you crash and you are uninjured and not shaken up etc, feel free to actually help with picking up / pushing your bike. It can get old when the riders fine and not shaken up looks at you walks away and goes and sits on the barrier or tires while you are trying to pick up and push the bike with broken clip-ons and no clutch all by yourself

god it pisses me off when i see that. it sucks to crash and i know your hot and unhappy in your leathers, but it drives me crazy when the racer walks off the track like he's rossi and lets the corner workers handle his bike. assholes.

    Re: Cornerworkers

    oxx good point.

Another great reason to corner work is that you can work a corner that you arent that great at and you get to see other peoples lines, what lines are good and what lines are bad. How people are handling diff things etc. Corner workers sometimes make great corner coaches tooo

    Re: Cornerworkers

Loun, great write up!!! Couldn't have said it better. Some of us are a bit nut's and we will run out and "play in traffic" that would scare the hell out of most people. Sure, we may have to jump a bike or climb the tires or wall but, that's part of the gig. I really relate to Loun because we we were promoted to Captain on the same day.

Just to make sure none of you do anything stuuupid..... A worker or captain will make a quick assessment to see if your OK to help, continue or need to be behind the wall. Just follow instructions. If we let you go, PLEASE,,,,PLEASE, don't crash again.

If we tell you to "get over here and help!" do it!!!!

We had a guy go down last weekend in T #6 who was asked to help with the bike. He said " that's your job " and walked away. Good thing it wasn't me, he wouldn't have got the bike back!!

    Re: Cornerworkers

one of my favorites was someone crashed in the beach coming out of 3, I ran down from 4 to check on him and pick the bike up. Racing continued, he ran and stood behind me... I asked if hed help (since he was fine) and he responded with, fuck that im not getting hit... so I calmly said oh shit ur right and i dont even have armor or a helmet on and I jumped in behind him... he didnt know what to do or say hahaha so i was like lets get ur F'n bike... and I think he then figured it out.

We have plenty of stories but overall most of you guys are great at doing what you are told and helping out. Its just like everything else, theres a couple bad apples that can turn some people bitter. But thats ok we know who they are and those people.. I dont wave at! haha
