    Question EX 500's

    What's the deal with racing these? I mean, are they competitive in any classes any more? If so, which ones? I know they're a cheap race bike, but what else's good about 'em to race? Are there limitations to mods you can do for particular classes?

    I'd say they're competetive against other EX's... and perhaps a SV if the rider on the EX is skilled enough...

    I think what jay wants to know is.....If it's a bike he could be competative on.

    I know of a bike you could be competative on jay....But last I heard Valentino Rossi would be using it all season.

    What's good about them? They are cheap, slow and have weak breaks. I'm not kidding. That's why they are a good learning tool. To go fast on one, you have to carry good corner speed and the brakes aren't strong enough to let you scub your speed that effectively. Same reason the motards are so popular now.

    They have a class for stock bikes Ptwins. It's spec class racing, so obviously they are competitive here.

    In modified form it's a little tougher, but the bike gets a lot sweeter with some careful mods. You can't race the ptwins class though, so it's a tough call.

    The best way to go now is likely stock motor/airbox/exhaust plus penske shock and springs.

    The exhaust should be modified to tuck in a little tighter...
