I'm a little out of knowledge on the supermotos these days but might want to race one again. It seems like the husky FS450 is the way to go now. I'm looking at buying new.
Key question is, should I go with a '20 leftover, or pay $1k more for a '21. Seems like based on the websites/news that the main updates are suspension related but not sure if anyone has deep knowledge on these things.

Well this escalated quickly. We went front rebuilding an SV master to new motards in a day.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
The orange motard is better looking. That’s all I’ve got on this one. Sadly, I’m way out of touch too.
Has anyone seen my dad shoes?

FS 450 / 450 SMR are the same frame / motor / bouncy bits. Only difference is the FS has a plastic subframe and different colored plastics. Disappointingly, unlike prior generation KTM sumos, it's not a dedicated supermoto frame, it's the same frame, motor, etc the 450 SXF/etc use, so if you can score the same gen SXF/Blue equiv, wheels, clamps plus that suspension revalve you're going to need no matter the platform for less, it's a valid path as well.
19 to 20 saw some frame tweaks, 20 to 21 the changes are mostly valving tweaks to the suspension, which get tossed if you get either year revalved. 21s also show a .25in shorter wheelbase, front axle size changed to 22mm. Neither of those would be deal breakers for me, you can easily get that .25in on the 20s, or more depending on where you want the final geo to be.
Honda, Yamaha, Kawi, Suzi have all stepped up their games as well, they don't have out of the crate ready to roll on slicks packages but kits to set them up are readily available for reasonable money.
Lastly - as with all race bike options, find a used one that's all setup and that'll be the cheapest path forward.

They ALL go boom.

TM's are great but I've heard the 450 off the shelf has less power than the Hondas or KTMs. I have a TM brochure and there's a moto3 bike in there too, maybe consider that!

Kramer? Same price as an FS and the 2 rebuilds you’ll do I’m a year

I talked to him last round. He's going back to his ducati. He thinks the bike is too low on power and doesn't really fit well in the classes it races in. Yes, per the rules, there's a place for it but its nearest competitor is too far back or too far ahead.
Also, I second CEO coming back on an SV. There's not enough in supersport.

Yeah, SuperSingles it should dominate, ULGP it was WAY outgunning the other machines there. Not legal for Motard. GTL/LWblah it's going up against potentially much bigger guns. So yeah, I can see where he's coming from. That sucks though, trying to give him an honest fight was what had me trying to build my Kramer 'killer'. Bah.

I personally don’t like the FS/SMR for sumo duty because they are lowered. It’s a good deal to start with something almost ready to ride, but a full height MX version converted are better for ‘real’ supermoto and aren’t held back at Loudon. If you’re looking at pavement only than the factory KTMs aren’t a bad choice.
Don’t discount TM’s. They are as ready to race as anything can be, make a ton of smooth power, and handle telepathicly. If I get off a Honda it will 100% be for a TM.
I am interested in the Kramers... whose is that?
So seems like the ktm husky distinction isn't important, and the 20 vs 21 husky also isn't a big deal. I have a line on a '20 leftover husky for a good price i'm considering.
Re: your points JC, I would be using this pretty much exclusively for pavement roadracing. So I'm not sure the MX height issue is important? Also, I'm not very tall, so lowered is nice...
Re: the TM they look great but I'm a little hesitant to race something that no one else is and that's imported - replacement parts, trouble/issues, getting aftermarket stuff, etc... is that an issue with these? I guess I'd want to know if they will be a better weapon (significantly) than the husky to make any headache worth it. What's the powerplant?

The service from TM is awesome actually, I just call or email Ralph at gravity TM racing (the US distributor) and order whatever I need. They have an online shop now too. Usually ships FedEx the next day. There is one guy racing a TM in LRRS. Power plant on the kit 450 smr is a factory race 65hp 450 4t. Check the price list on the TM website, but I do see those fs450s are starting to get cheaper, for some reason I thought they were like $13k.
