Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Cool, thanks.
Any bit will help me... a 1/4 turn stock throttle (90 degrees) just doesn't really work for someone with a bad wrist... I have to do pushups on my fists for the rest of my life since the surgery, so you can imagine trying to twist that thing all the way around lol

Dude, just do what I do & not do pushups at all. :coward:

I thought about going with the 06+ R6 throttle but decided to error on the side of caution and went with the tested modification. I will be at Thompson this weekend so Im going to try to install it this week.
Amazon prime is awesome.
lmk what you think. I will likely want this mod at some point in the future.

Apparently it's about a 10% increase in size, which is about what you get with the 03-05 R6 tube. So, if you wanna spend $80 to avoid trimming some plastic, this works, but the 03-05 R6 tube is much cheaper and requires about five minutes to modify. Spears also sells what seems to be a pre-trimmed R6 tube for around $30.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Thanks for the update, Kurtz. I'll have both throttles old r6 and new r6 here thursday and planning to do some work to my bike friday night.
But to clarify my understanding is that for the gen 1 you don't need to trim the r6 throttle at all...? According to the old canyon chasers post, only the gen 2 needs trimming.
And I will dick around with the newer r6 tube since that will be even shorter, but may require some trimming, who knows...

correct

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
^ Brady would know better than I; I've only done this on a gen 2.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Cool thanks guys. Both r6 throttles should show up tomorrow and i'm going to work on the bike friday night so will let you know how it goes and what i find. if I can easily make the 06+ r6 throttle work then that will be even better for me.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Since that G2 tube with the largest cam that fits into the housing is only a 10% increase, I bit the bullet and just ordered a Cycle Pirates quick turn kit from Sportbike Track Gear for the 650R. The 07 Kawi had a Yoyodyne throttle, and honestly, it spoiled me.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Update, worked on the bike tonight and the throttle was one of the things I needed to do.
I first tried the 06+ R6 throttle which actually fit in the housing fine even though its a good amount bigger. However, even with all the adjusters all the way out on both ends of the cables, I couldn't get it all connected (or the cables would have been tight enough to be unusable). So basically, I would need some slightly longer throttle cables, and if I was going to do that, I'd just go for the motion pro setup in its entirety probably.
So then I threw the 03-05R6 (06+ R6S) throttle in and as mentioned it was a drop-in solution. It's definitely shorter throw than stock, so that should help. I wish the 06 throttle was the same way since that would be even shorter, but for now I'll try this one.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
There aren't many useful mod's that are as cheap and easy as that, even if it's not your ultimate solution.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
I have Kurtz old sv650 with this mod, I love it.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Chris, if you just need a touch more cable slack, order up a set of Motion Pro replacement throttle cables, but request a few MM more cable. I don't recall the exact year/model of your SV but it looks like you're talking $20 to $40 for a set of cables.
-
Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
They don't make a direct replacement for the 1st gen SV, as mentioned above. He has to send his current cables to Motion Pro to have a custom set made.
-
Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
No need to send them in, spec'ing custom is cake. If you're up for a little silver solder action you don't even need to send them in, just get the ends and some loose cable, reuse the OEM outers.

And you can make gen-2 cables work.

Here I thought service was included in the price.
Actually, first I'll need to double check I'm on stock.

Super easy to install; I'll help you out Sunday, either before the day or after dinner. Shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
Like Oxx said, I had a modified R6 tube, but you can roll off past the stop and mess it up on the 2nd gen... Happened to me twice on two different tubes so I went back to stock.
I do NOT think this is an issue on the 1st gen, but I could be mistaken.
If anything, Imma superglue a zip tie or two onto my stocker. I ran the R6 tube that way for over a year with zero issues (till I rolled off too far, obviously).
-
Re: Gen 1 SV quickturn throttle
I knew I was forgetting something. Plaistow emailed me on Friday that the part was in, forgot to go fetch it.
What exactly happens when the throttle rolls back "too far". Does it pin it at max throttle, or leave you with no throttle?
I have a gen 2 throttle assembly mounted on gen 1 carbs. Always figured the stops on the carbs would be the limit of the travel. Or are the throttle bodies different somehow?

Did this happen with the S housing or the N housing?
