Holy crap! Those brought back the memories! Something I didn't mention before was that except for the purpose-built racebikes the fast guys had, most of the stuff out there were "Universal Japanese Motorcycles". Note in one pic that the bike had the tufted seat padding and the chrome grab rail around it! Photos #56 and 132 show that there were Motards raced back in the 80's. Photo #93 is AAMRR racer turned Honda factory rider Mike Baldwin (#43) with Kevin Cameron. #110 is Herb Quarterley, Dale's father, holding his bike. #115 shows the dirt pit that used to be the paddock. I remember lousy bathrooms that had no doors for the stalls. In the middle of taking a dump, one was often confronted by either a very large black dude or a woman. Either one had a plunger in their hand and was there to remind you to flush the toilet!

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.
Nice to see the old school supermoto RM400! I remember Jeff Heino had one of those, I think he actually raced the Superbikers with it (Carlsbad maybe?)
He was the shit in our hometown back in the 80s & 90s. The race shop was on my way home from school and one of my buddies worked there. I wish I new then what I know now - all I was interested in was getting a free t-shirt and getting the motor in my dirtbike built by his tuner.

Did they do burnouts at the start to warm up the tires?

They weren't supposed to. I don't know if that the National or what, but my rider was constantly being chewed out by AAMRR officials. He barely escaped a $500 fine for doing one after the red flag came out. I was on pit row and managed to convince them that he had already passed the Turn 8 station beforem the flag came out. Back then, a red flag meant to come to a complete stop on the track and wait until you were directed to do so before going back the the pits/grid. My rider finally stopped doing wheelies after he blew up the motor trying to show off along the pit straight.
No, that's 2 stroke smoke. They didn't run as clean back then. There wasn't a better smell on Earth than Castrol Bean Oil in a 2 stroke!![]()
