Forecast for next event: HOT!
Bike (03 600RR) was stripped of all fans when I bought it. On a cool (like 55-60deg) day it runs about 185-190deg on the track.
Last July - The forecast was about the same - and I had issues with it over-heating. It would be running about 205+ on track (I would glance down a few laps in on the front straight)... as soon as I pitted out it would jump to 220+.
Curious if this is common with other similar bikes with no fans?
For the most part it didn't cause any huge problems - other than not being able to start it back up after a delay before my race...

Mine always ran about 210-220* off the track.
My R6 still has the fans on it and after every race, when I pull into the pits it's running at 210-220 degrees w/the fans going. I put some engine ice in it for last round and it didn't really make too big a difference.

240???? damn
My rc gets to 220 then cools down, but in one of the heatwaves it got up to 231 on the highway and I really didnt like it.
one time sitting in traffic at Hampton beach it got up to 237, i turned around and left but then checked out the manual later to be sure and 240 -245 is the hottest you want to let it get i guess before you really want to shut it down.
my bike usually stays at 169-175 (on a cold day) to 185 - 195 (on a really hot day) while riding and only hits 220ish when stopped at lights.
Make sure your radiators are washed out good. A light film of dust will make them less efficient at transferring heat. Another trick to dropping temps after you come in off the track is to mist some water into the radiator as the bike is running. This will drop the temp quickly.
With the fans mounted, there is never a worry of cooking the engine.
Saving a pound of weight in this department isn't worth it, IMO.
What are you saving - a lb or 2? Where's the benefit in club racing? Not worth maybe overheating on in a possible hold on the grid on a hot, humid day.

I really think these guys strip the fans off their bikes because a couple of the fast guys *may* have removed them but what people seemingly don't realize is those bikes have an additional radiator piped in to suppliment the OEM cooling system in the cases where the fans are removed.
I never understood it myself but to each their own I suppose.

Ditch the thermostat.

I've removed the t-stat from the race hawk and manage the water temp by strips of duct tape. 170-180 is my goal.
My 04 CBR 600rr will run 225 on track with the fan and t-stat.

Anybody know when we can enter the track for this weekend? Better there than the city.
Without the fan is better cooling while moving at a reasonable speed. The fan only works to circulate air when the movement of the bike isn't doing it. 600rr typically run at 200-225.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
