I have an active one on my TL. 3 seasons old with a handful of trackdays and 15,000 street miles. Works like a charm (looks great also). It is a stock-top mount. easily adjusts, no dead spots, has been maintainance free (knock on wood)....

    Re: hyperpro steering damper

Get a sprint Justin. They are really smooth, no air bubbles to cause skipping, and they are designed to control expansion when they heat up so they stay consistent. Rui's needs to be rebuilt, but FWIW weve never had a Sprint SXC come back for a rebuild that wasnt crashed. They are pretty cheap, $375 racer price brand new. I have read bad things about the hyperco but I have no personal experience with that damper. I do with scotts, ohlins, sprint, and the sprint is the nicest. BTW are you going to the banquet?

    1.) Noel is an asshole
2.) Denno uses a Sprint on his street R6 & has mentioned good things about them
    3.) Noel is an asshole
4.) You've heard other about Sprint
5.) you could get an Ohlins for $250 on Hard Racing (unless you're tied to Hyperpro)
6.) Noel is still an asshole

Justin, I have an Ohlins damper on my bike and it's very well built, IMO. I haven't noted any significant stiction and the damping adjustment is quite responsive. Never saw any fade or experienced any aeration of the oil thus far.

    Re: hyperpro steering damper

i was originally looking at ohlins, gpr, sprint and hyper was farther down the list. Its just the price is right for the hyper but i didnt know anyone running one.

i am leaning toward a top mount damper

John, my ohlins from my GSXR is supposedly able to fit the r6 with different mounts... they are pretty universal - just grab one and make it work!

PS... do you still have your built bike?

As long as its the same troke it should fit no problem. Ive transfered dampers from one bike to another with no problem.

Ya Ive been using the ohlins. Its mounted above the triple. It is kind of exposed in a crash and Ive been very lucky to have not damaged it. The worst thing that has happened to it is a bent mount bolt which cost about 3 dollars to replace.

    .
You only need to buy the damper itself, the "kits" are overpriced.

For my 06 I just checked the stroke needed and bought the damper itself from hard racing for $230 bucks.

Like james said, they are exposed. Graves makes an (overpriced) kit to mount it below the triple clamp and out of harms way. You can either buy the Graves kit or have something like it made yourself for much cheaper, which is what I did.

You need to remove the ignition to do that though. I replaced mine with a button switch for the igntion from radio shack that's mounted flush in the triple, that was just a couple bucks. I can post pics when I get home.

Theres a big connector on the left side of the bike the ignition plugs into. You jump two leads, the other two route to your switch.

I'll get pics of the damper setup and of the ignition wiring when i get a chance.
