OK, so after my first race weekend I have decided I NEED to invest in a set of tire warmers. I am looking at the Woodcraft models. Do I need the digital set or are the dual temp all I really need? I don't know enough about them, and I don't want to spend the extra $ if the dual temp will do what I need. Any thoughts? Thanks..
Dual Temp should treat you right. They have the low setting (for between sessions) and high setting (for pumping them up and getting them super hot before the race).
I have the Digital Bakers myself from Woodcraft and they are so damn nice. Basically regardless of the fact they are a sponsor of mine (and Eric is a friend), Woodcraft products are IMO the very best out there. From the warmers, to kneepucks, rearsets, stand spools, etc, it's all super super high quality and Eric Wood is a awesome guy to deal with.
You can't really lose with either model. Pick the one that fits your budget and needs. I suggest giving them a call at (978) 297-2977 and talking it over to get the best solution for you. Tell them Alex Dunstan sent ya!

Tire warmers are like oil, you're gonna get a whole lot of opinions and not a whole lot of facts (though the people with opinions will tell you they are facts). Personally, I've never had a problem with standard single temperature warmers. Put them on 20-30 minutes before a race and the tires get nice and sticky.

I like my regular old chicken hawks, they prep me nicely for every race/practice I go out in. And they were relatively affordable.
I really want some asap as well. I am looking into the low end chicken hawk or the 2 temp woodcrafts...no way I can spend 500 plus on them![]()

I've had an older set of Chicken Hawks and 2 sets of Woodcrafts (first got stolen ugh)... I like the Woodcrafts better.... I bought them after borrowing a set from an NESR member.
Anything that will heat your tires up will work fine.
Thanks Alex, and to everyone for the advice/opinions! I thought I'd be conservative and not jump into this with both feet but I am fully hooked after one race weekend and looking for ways to finance this new hobby...the streetbike just went on craigslist (K7 1000), looks like I am all done with street riding for a while.
I have dual temp Woodcraft tire warmers, work great. love their rearsets too, bike came with Vortex fruit rolls ups that lasted 1 crash, been down coupe times hard on woods and going strong.
Chicken Hawk is top knotch stuff. AND is also sold by our own local guys, Boston Moto. They are also running a special for LRRS racers where you get $50 off of the warmers plus a free set of knee pucks and a free set of mechanics gloves. It's a good deal on great warmers and being a Boston Moto customer has it's benefits. Ask anyone around the track how their service is and you will get nothing but rave reviews. Look at how man people thanked them in their race reports from this past weekend.
Edit: Click the link in my sig and it will take you to the online store for Boston Moto. Make the purchase online and your new warmers will be waiting for you at the next race weekend.![]()

My Chicken Hawks do just fine, FWIW.
Low to get the heat started
Medium to further increase heat (or maintain heat from previous session)
High to prep for race duty
The Woodcrafts are pimp but way too expensive for my taste.
if you have some time, you can find some good deals used..... but for warmers, make sure you know who they are coming from. i always had the woodcraft digitals, they are pricey up front, but they will last and if you break them or they break themselves (been there, done that) eric is local and will hook you up. i broke my rear once, my fault, gave it to him at the track, he gave me a loaner and then fixed mine, had it waiting for me at the track the next weekend.
LRRS EX #165 (formerly)
I may be enticed into letting my Chicken Hawk standards go if the price is rightSay $250?
They're in very good shape, I've had em since '06 and they've never failed me.
Just thinking about going w/ the Woodcrafts to appease the sponsor Gods![]()
