"Some" being the operative word and with that, I don't see the same hating on the LW class as much as the hating on the MW/ HW classes.

Just an observation: I'm loving how the opinionated and most outspoken comments are coming from people that haven't ridden in MW and are only going by what they've *heard* about MW from other people. It's not just in this thread but happens randomly on this forum.

To those people I'd like to ask: Without ever being there, how can you comment one way or another?

What's so incredibly different between the respective classes? Besides the machines themselves, don't crashes still happen the same way?

Point is, the same shit can be said about LW that's being said about MW.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???

    I don't agree.

I think the type of people who go into LW and UL are different than the people that go into MW.

It might not be true but the preception is that "squids" come off the street and go into MW thinking they are gonna be a star. They usually crash the first weekend and get a wake up call but the damage is done. I think the crash rate is higher in MW (In novice at least). I didn't name it "the meatgrinder" but I was told that is what it is called.

LW and UL peps have smaller grids so there might not be as many of these issues but I also think that if you buy a LW (SV) or UL (Hawk/Duc) you already have a different mindset than the guy who goes out and gets a 600 to race.

Racing is Racing. I am not saying EVERYONE who races a 600 has these tendencies. I just think there are more of them than in UL/LW.

    See what I am saying?

Or you could say That some people are more cut out for the MW/HW and some of us are More of a lightweight Kind of racing. One is not better then the other Just diffrent. I (and Doc) Started racing really late I was 35 Doc is like a few months my senior. I started on a 600 And found is was not for me. Other people Love them I noticed alot of the lightwieght guys were alot closer to my age. and were already resigned to the fact that are not ever going to go to The AMA ect. and just want to race.

    Yes....sort of.

I think, as racers, we're all woven from the same fabric. It's in our disposition to acheive goals, be competitive, etc. The choice in machine doesn't separate us or how we think...no....what makes the respective classes different is the way we go about becoming successful in each of our desired choice in races.

I'd hate to think that, based on your "squids" comment, the MW class has a stain on it in the eyes of the remaining LRRS field because I see MW currently being no more or less dangerous than any other class. Were you there the weekend damn near everyone went down? Didn't matter what you were riding, that track was biting people left and right.

For me, I dig the respect a MW bike demands and that's why I ride one. Hope that doesn't put me in squid territory.

So, do I get to hate on everyone, and be extra pissy about it 'cause they won't let my ultra ultra light weight superbike on the track?

Right... That's the point I'm trying to make. Try & think objectively for a moment....

I'm saying the apparent reason behind the "MW hating" is because it seems to me there's more people that currently race LW that USED to race MW than there are people who currently race MW that USED to race lightweight. There are MORE people going from MW's and HW's to LW's than the other way around.

Why do you think the Motard class is one of the fastest growing classes? Because it's fast & dangerous?

PLEASE don't put too much weight on my "squids" comment. What I meant was...
It is percieved that many of the NEW MW guys are people who think a 600 is the only "real bike" to race. (or a 1000) "Hey if they are on TV then they must be a real racebike".
That said I think it also percieved that SOME of these individuals should have taken it a little slower and started in a beginner type area like Ptwins ( I kid, I kid )
Seriously, Do you not see that bias? The "600's are the only real racebike" type attitude?

    Its fact, not attitude.

Middleweight is the "Premier Class" at Loudon, simple as that. If you want to be the best, race against the best. The dash for cash is not run by hawks, motards or SVs.

If you don't have any aspirations to do anything more than just race for fun, do the LW thing. (FYI: I'm not taking away from the LW thing, I love watching those races and really want to race a motard) Otherwise, grid up against the 600's and see where you stack up. Its not cheap, but as others have said, that have actually been there and done it - there is nothing more rewarding and exciting.

I know this opinion won't be received well but I'll leave you with this so you can see where I'm coming from:

For me, the proudest moment of my 1st season wasn't winning a novice race or breaking into the teens, it happened on the last weekend of the year in the rain (my first as an Expert.) I'm on grid with the 2 board out and I look to my right and I see Scott Greenwood, I look dead ahead and see Eric Wood - no matter what happened after the green flag dropped, I was on equal terms with the best at the place I race and that means more to me than winning a championship in a LW class.

My name is Dennis and I race a 600.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???

Doc, I think the crashes in mw might have a little to do with equipment (600 is powerful for loudon). It's a tight track, and when trying to run a competitive rate, you're fighting to crack the throttle earlier/harder than the guy to your right... your "trackday" experiences don't relate to how you would need to ride a 600 in a race.

I'd like to see you run a 600 all season next year without a mistake, I mean... it should be easy to you now, right? you took the smarter rout and learned on a LW, so you should have no problem on a MW now...
