I saw Nicky get the thing WAAAAAY sideways coming into one of the chicanes. But, you're right, the lack of powerslides is quite disappointing.

If you wanna toss TC, etc, do it in WSBK. MotoGP is supposed to be the experimenter's race... which is why I'm so pissed with Moto2 replacing the 250 class... spec/sealed motors?!

    Re: MotoGP (no spoiler)

I understand that the 125 and 250 classes have awesome action, but why are people so upset to see the 600cc 4-strokes come in? The engines in the 250 class are just about all the same, aren't they? And if they aren't, who is 2-stroke development benefitting? 600cc 4 strokes making about 130-140 hp? Sounds fun to me!

Maybe they can't experiment with engine tech, but I'm sure their chassis development will benefit us normal guys more than them experimenting/developing 2-stroke technology.

Oh I wanna see that! I saw it live (from turn 5 and the 2nd to last turn) but was busy running a stopwatch. Good race!!

Yea the 800's are fucking boring to watch. Bleh. I like watching my 2004 and 2005 MotoGP Season in Review DVD's on the 990's.

Part of what pisses me off is Honda is pushing for this because they haven't been able to keep their 250 competitive, kinda like how they want rev limits in MotoGP to castrate desmo motors... If you can't compete on the merits, rig the rules... Got a few different brands/makes of motor out there, and if you look at the 125 class there is even a Chinese brand competing on their own design (and beating Honda in the MFG's points).

Two stroke tech is still developing, just the asinine politics of the world have decreed it dead rather than setting emissions standards and letting any design that meets them pass. Aprilia has direct injected two strokes that burn cleaner than matching displacement four strokes, while still retaining all the power, weight advantage and simplicity of a two stroke. We can't have them in the US though because two strokes are banned regardless of weather or not they pass emissions.

Myself, I'd love one of the reworked RS250 builds out there... 500cc parallel twin two stroke using a 90 degree crank. 112hp, 60ft/lbs of torque, and that's a nice flat torque curve you can eat off of, and it weighs all of 286lbs.

    http://www.twostrokeshop.com/Aprilia_RS500_2008.htm

Now, pair that with Aprilia's DFI, you should be able to broaden the power curve a bit more, as well as up the peak, all while making the bastard Euro 3 / US EPA compliant assuming you can convince them that it's just a loud 4 stroke...

I'm a thumper guy due to familiarity, but it's hard to look at those numbers and not dream/drool. MWSB legal, I'd run it in the meat grinder.

Good points josh. I haven't really researched the latest 2stroke tech, I didn't know they were even close to emissions friendly. I'm sure most people don't.....

The identity for this series has always been prototype racing. There are many series that race production bikes, but only ONE series racing factory prototypes. From a marketing standpoint, I think its risky to blur the lines between this series and the others. Even if the racing happens to suck in GP, they still generate massive interest due to the exotic machines.
