I just came across an aerial shot of the track.

Wish I could have ridden that a few times.
Note how close to the track the spectators on Animal Hill were.

That is a fantastic aerial photo... it really shows how different the north end of the track was near 106 and the infamous pond inside the oval.
Thanks for sharing!
Great shot. I miss that track...in some ways. In others, not so much.
Bob Cole passed away on Saturday. I don't know how many here knew him, but he and Sandy laid down the groundwork for the US Marshalls. Bob was the older brother of Nancy, Peggy and Laura Cole, all of whom have been involved with AAMRR/LRRS. He was also the father of Scotty Cole. When I first came to Loudon in 1981, I was immediately signed up to cornerwork. I did my first season under Bob's tutelage in Turn 8, then on to Turn 3 with Peggy. Rest in peace, Bob.

RIP
Haha I know of one bike that ended up there. My friend Matt Gordon sunk his bike in there after he beat Sadowski. Heard that story a couple of times, along with a lot of other great tales of racing at Briar. Wish I could have been there for some of it.
RIP Bob Cole, always sad to see one of the old guard pass.
I honestly don't remember that being there. Could it be seen from the "grandstand"?
Of course I never raced on that track... my first year was '91 when NHIS had taken over.
Sad to learn of Bob Cole's passing... he was the face of the corner workers for many years.
That was Bonnie's pit bike. It was an Easter present from her husband.
