    AirFence

I just posted this on my facebook:

Eventful Round 2 of LRRS. Weekend started good with a win in MWSB and then 3rd in MWGP. Rain on Sunday = 2nd in UNLSS and a big highside in T8 while leading MWSS (bike went over wall landing in T4). I should be broken, but thankfully I was saved by the Airfence. If it has saved you (or someone u know) in the past, you should donate! http://actionfund.roadracingworld.com/

I made a donation years ago when I slid into the fence at Daytona feet first and walked away. If you have ever slid into an airfence... you really owe it to yourself and others to donate to the Roadracing World Airfence Fund.

We are fortunate that LRRS/NHMS keeps buying more and more airfence..but there are alot of tracks (that you may never go to) that need this stuff to save both track day riders and racers from injury.

I crashed yesterday heading towards the tree house in T8 with a BIG highside on lap2 of MWSS. I slid back first into the air bag and it was like hitting a pillow. I thought I was done when I hit the ground.. figured I was gonna be broken in half forsure. After the bag stopped me, I let out a "WooHOO!" got up and jumped over the wall to a wide eyed cornerworker and my bike on the T4 side of the track. It was fast to say the least!

Anyway.. just wanted to share my feelings on this stuff with you guys. I know moneys tight for everyone.. myself included..but what I just sent in seems like nothing compared to the bills I would have had if I hit those tires or a wall.

Awesome Scott. Hurray for LRRS. Safety should never be comprised. It is certainly great to hear that LRRS is investing in that area.

    Re: AirFence

There are a few different models. $2900 each is the number I remember from when RRW first started the fund for the Airfence Defender (foam bag type)

Years ago, a group of racers started a fund and people donated and that fund bought fence for loudon. Mostly the blue airbags with the logos screend on them. If u look closely.. there is a GMD computrack one, Street and Comp etc. My company donated 800 and got one with out LOGO on it: TSE. Any they are still being used and are deployed every Mcycle event at NHMS.

That had to be back in 2001 or 2002.

I am not sure what the skinnier white foam bags are called or who they are made by.

Glad to hear you are alright Scott, that sounds like a potentially horrendous crash.

I have only had a few offs and thankfully none of them ended up into the fence but in the interest of good karma, I am off to make a donation right now.

    Thanks for posting the link!

    Re: AirFence

I feel ya, Scotty. Having gone down in T8 twice now, it's scary as hell!!! I was fortunate enough both times to have ended up in the gravel trap on the inside of T9 though, not further to the left into the really scary stuff. I'm super glad you were up and okay.

I've donated before and will be sure to donate again in the near future. It's one of those things I hope I'll never need, but will gladly use if the occasion presents itself.

    Re: AirFence

I have contributed in the past to various collections for airfence and will be sure to do so again.

After watching Coleman Larlee NV #525 have the misfortune of testing it out in turn 12 during race 9 on Saturday, and hearing stories like Scott's over the years, I am a firm believer that the airfence is worth every penny we can donate.

    Re: AirFence

Definitely a great cause and something worth donating to. I saw Christians airfence test first hand and it definitely worked well in his case.

Scottie, I was in T12 Sunday working and saw your bike cartwheeling up through the trees and over into 4... It was an amazing thing to watch from that far away, definitely glad you turned out fine. Any pics of the bike? I can only imagine it took the abuse hard!

It would not be the first time a T7 bike made it to T4/T5. Maybe a taller barrier is needed?

"Holy shit how does a bike launch from turn 8 to 4?"

    He used all the power...

Gino, im sure they will look into how it happened and if it can safely be avoided in the future. The easy answer is build huge "barriers" but as you know there are other things that need to be considered so the answer isnt really that easy.

I have worked T5 many times, and more than once and ended up with a bike from 7 sitting next to me.

Taller barriers aren't necessarily prudent up there, as we are not the only group that uses that part of the track.

Airfence is an amazing thing, saved me this weekend as well when i crashed exiting turn 2. I went back first into the airfence instead of the Nascar concrete wall. Donations are always needed.

    Re: AirFence

Consider me in. I've clipped airfence in T10 while upright, and T1 during the T1a-T1k thing during construction. Handy stuff. I'm sure I'd have been much less happy hitting hard stuff like tires.

Coleman is my friend and garage mate. He is OK, just bruised. That's awesome, considering the crash.

Scott, glad you are OK. That's a sketch place to crash.
