and it's been a long time comin..... i'm sittin here @ work & made the mistake of pulling up http://lrrs.wworks.com/classifieds/![]()
I've been toyin w/ the idea of pickin up a Hawk GT, ex500 or MAYBE an SV.... i've got some pennies saved up, it's just a matter of figured out what i wanna do with it....
too bad this ad is so old... http://lrrs.wworks.com/classifieds/d...on.cfm?id=5113
unfortunately the biggest hurdle i'd need to figure out is a means of transportation for the bike, first. That means gettin rid of my car & finding a Pick-up truck, or keeping the bike elsewhere & bummin a ride off someone every freakin race weekend.
think i'm gonna start talkin to people about arrangments, leads & hook-ups on rides, bikes etc. for next season.

I use a $250 Harbor Freight trailer and a 2 liter Ford Focus to get my race bike, pit bike, tools, and all my gear to the track.
Do I look cool ? No...
But it works...
i'll see about gettin a trailer hitch for my car, but i was plannin on ditchin it soon anyways
how's this look for an ex?

for the 10 years of racing all i ever used was a single snowmobile trailer that i bought off a guy for 100 bucks, it tilted so i could just drive it up on it without asking 3 people to help me load/unload it...when we use to go to bridgehampton on the ferry i borrowed my brothers pickup truck, (was cheaper on the ferry) but a small trailer is the way to go....just my 2 cents...
let me know if your looking for a pit crew/instructor I may be available....at least you can bring the bike over the garage so we can get it race ready...![]()

You meant to say... "too bad Alex bought that bike and is currently riding it instead of me"
MWAHAHAH
Charlie Meyers was the Expert that really did all the killer work to my Hawk, he sold it to this guy Jimmy who did 3 races and sold it to me for short money. booya![]()

Pete, talk to me at the track about a trailer next Tuesday. I built a 6x10 utility/bike trailer over the winter myself, and a single bike trailer would be a piece of cake.
'03 FZ-1 - the angry bumblebee.
'84 KZ700 - the perpetual project.
Jack - thanks for the support... i'm sure i can learn alot from an old fugger like yerself
Alex.... you're a bitch, thanks for stealing my bike before i could even buy it
Paul - cheap = me... i won't be spendin more than i have to, trust me
Dan - don't remind me i'm becoming one of YOU
Chris - will do bro, see ya next week.
As far as a ride, i'm still searchin... i had just about eliminated getting an EX500 till John offered me his, all race ready w/ rains for pretty short money. I'll think about it, but i'm still gonna keep my eyes out for a Hawk or SV. I dont think i'd be happy for long on an EX.

Get the SV, they are perfect for Loudon.
John's bike has been a good bike since I've seen it... never let him down.

Pete, you want cheap I'd say an ex or a motard.
[shaking fist]those damn motards[/fist shaking]
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

[shaking fist]those damn motards[/fist shaking]Motards are not that costly to run and take care of once you are set up with a bike. Plus if you're a crasher (Pete may be one of them crashers.. haha) these bikes are designed to crash so chances are you can pick the bike up and continue racing

Get the EX. Learn the ropes a lil (if it's that good a deal) then get a HAWK when you have the opp.
Yea yea.. SV's are cool, everyone races them, so what. It's way more fun to beat em on a 18 year old bike![]()

i'll just steal your hawk & swap out the bodywork & the numbers when you're not lookin![]()

Don't get an EX500 with 16" wheels!! 1994 or later will get you 17" wheels that accept modern radials. The one for sale at odfu is an old one.
If you want an ex-Penguin school EX, Dan Murphy is selling his daughters EX for around $1600.00. Now, that's the way to go. He'll be at the June 21 track day and I'm sure he would bring it with him. Let me know and I'll get you his contact info.
If you want a Hawk, there is a guy on the NEAR list who just put his bike up for sale. BUt, be warned that Hawks take a bit of money to get them to go fast.
For transportation, I use a 1970's three rail trailer and put a hitch on my Subaru. It works great.
1600? ya that's a sharp deal.
Wonder which Hawk is for sale? Basically a Hawk needs a shock and upgraded front to be competitive. Sure dropping 4k into the motor is nice (like the guy who owned mine did...) but Gene Berrio just did a 22.9 on Saturday (hey I was chasing him) and he has completely stock engine internals. Very impressive. (does have pipe / jets / filter)
Either way, whatever you get is going to be pissah fun.
