You can get these at any drug store( walgreens, cvs, etc). They are on the shelf as a "nightguard" to prevent you from grinding your teeth at night. Same thing, same boil and fit process. They are around $20. Paying $75 for the same thing is retarded. I have used one for years because I grind my teeth, but would consider it useless as far as racing offroad or on the track.
This isn't about tooth protection, this is about reducing or preventing concussions. And they've been proven to work.

That's fine, I know it's controversial... but are you going to tell us why?
This is what I found http://www.sportsdentistry.com/concussion.html
Fact or fiction, if spending 10 measly bucks at Sports Authority is going to potentially give me some added protection when I'm doing 100 plus through turn 8 with my knee on the deck, I don't see why I wouldn't bother using one if there's no downsides. In fact, now that I think of it, I've slammed the back of my head before and I've felt the headache & the pain in my jaw that resulted.

I'm not saying don't try it, especially for cheap money. Hell I wear a wrist brace, neck brace, and body armor with a back protector now. I have had too many injuries, and am just tired of recovering from them. I was replying more to the guy selling them for $75. You can get the same thing for alot less.
I could see it protecting your teeth and tongue. I had a dentist try to get me to wear one years ago when he found out I race offroad. I just question how much it will help with preventing consussions. Its not as though we are riding around with our mouths wide open, and when we take a blow to the head, the concussion is coming from our jaw slamming shut.
My helmet related injuries/crashes always seem to be from being thrown forward, and the blow coming from the top of the helmet. Last one cracked the helmet liner, and broke 3 vertabrae in my neck. Just seems for a mouthguard to help, the helmet would have to be jarred up like off your head. While I haven't crashed a streetbike, yet. My dirt crashes don't seem to ever be like that.
This is a really good idea and will start using one. I figure I will use a WR mouth piece from football with a lip guard. I figure it will be easier to grab and put in and out of your mouth with the guard on it.

I always liked the minty flavored hocky guards that you boil and bite down to form.
I personally have still lost teeth WHILE wearing a mouth guard.... the concussion bit is no joke. I got hit so hard in hockey (with a full cage on) that I completely bit through the guard. Brain injuries are from your brain moving around and smashing the inside of your head. The jaw slamming shut (no matter how small the gap) is just another impact that your brain and the fluid around it needs to absorb. Having a mouthguard between your VERY hard upper/lower jaw absorbs the impact in a similar way to the padding in most of your racing suits. Agreed or not, there is a reason that hockey players (who could give two shiiiiiits about their teeth) still wear these.
