What are you looking at for bodywork? I hear good things about Godfather Racing (cheap and good). Don't go near Hotbodies however, from what I've heard.Quote:

i got the bike running, who ever last tried to get it running had the idle set at about 6k rpms. noticed i had some leaks comming from some hoses that were connected when i removed the smog crap. so i pulled everything apart again. i think the near the air mixture screw on the left carb is leaking,or it could of been gas dripping out of the tube. im not sure
Godfather bodywork is top notch. I've used them on several bikes. Same fit and quality as SharkSkinz but at half the price.Quote:

I'm friends with the owner and he's a class act in terms service and support.
folks on the 600rr website would disagree with you, but I am thinking about going with the godfather, just because of the cost.

Godfather is still a fledgling company and in an effort to get up to speed quickly they did buy molds for certain brands from other companies that were going under.
I can say the Suzuki molds were spot on, right down to the dimples for windscreens and such.
I also believe certain models, (not sure which) are virtual replicas of SharkSkin product.
What I CAN say and affirm is that the quality and structure of the fiber and resins used to make their product offer high flexibility coupled with good crash worthiness. My painter loved them and compared their prep to that of a SharkSkinz set.

I'm actually putting street stuff back ON my MZ race bike. It's going to be my daughter's street bike. I'll take the typical street stuff (side stand, instruments, headlight...) back off to race a weekend or two.
I waited months for godfather last year They promised me plastics 'next month' for 5 months before I finally went with someone else. They eventually got the mold built sometime close to october when I saw them down in Daytona. They seemed like nice enough guys but I refuse to buy anything now simply because they jerked me around so much. The quality is not sharkskins, though it maybe a little better than hotbodies. Can't say for sure though, since all the companies display a perfect set then ship you out crap when you order from them.Quote:

I attempted to purchase Godfather plastics last year about 4 or 5 times (starting in February). No-one returned any of my calls...
Not to make excuses for them, but this last year was rough on them. They had an initial low price and a billion people jumped on so they were pressed to get the orders done and still fine time to make new molds.
Mid-summer they finally hired more help and acquired a dedicated production shop.
Lots of running around, buying out molds from out of bus. companies, and lack of staff--but I think they got their act together now.
I ordered a set last week for my SV--I'll let you know the results!

Sounds familiar. I made a bunch of off season changes last year and went from improving almost 2 seconds a weekend in 04 to stuggling 4 seconds slower in 05 up until bike week.Quote:

Making big mods to a racebike is serious fun, but I'll share a cautionary tale:
I had a teammate who made a lot of mods each winter. He generally spent each season progressively returning the bikes towards stock!
My lesson learned was baby steps. For those like Alex that have more riding experience, adapting to change may come a bit easier.
Nothing extremely new to report this last two weeks. Spend last week stripping motor down. Took of the jugs and will be shipping them out to be re-honed soon. Got my new shift lever in today. VFR shifter, aluminum and direct bolt.
However.. in tearing down the motor.. I found a 1350$ GIFT. Turns out I have Carillo rods and Stage 2 porting (+2 on the intakes). That REALLY was a nice surprise :D

Got to work on my bike for the first time in weeks... and the last time in weeks... Matt's off to JAMACIA to get married next week. Oh baby.
Installed the new headset bearings (needle..ooo) and modified bearing race. Perfect. Put on the GSXR triples, installed the new (and recently rebuilt) Ohlins, and smacked the swingarm back on. Man the GSXR trips are so much beefier than the F2 unit that was on there (and on Matt's bike in the backgroud). Can't wait to pick up my fork legs next week and throw them up in there (along with the wheel) next time I'm over Matt's.
Started to look like a bike again. My engine bits are done and will be shipped back next week as well. Also took home my 'new' (used) M4 system to polish the headers and shit while Matt's away. Them babies are GROSS looking currently. Will be a marked upgrade over my beat-the-shit Supertrapp headers and cobbled together V&H can I ran last year.
