    Spare wheels or pit bike?

    Ok...

I would like a pit bike for next season. I would also like a spare set of wheels for the Sv to mount rains onto.

If I can only buy one of the two... and they are roughly the same price... which do I chose?

I have both all lined up. I honestly can only afford to pull the trigger on one of them this time of the year.

Which one is gonna give me the better bang for the buck?

I've come across a slew of local PW80's lately. All under $500. Gonna look at one tomorrow that's a runner for $300.

go with the wheels. If you get a pitbike, spend the money and get something you can at least really screw around on, like my thumpstar.

You are going to be in the garage next year. You really don't need a pitbike. Get the wheels. You will need the wheels.

Wheels. I use a Long Board as my pit bike and it works fine at Loudon. I guess that makes it my Pit Board!

I would get the pit bike, if you want to get anywhere on the track quick it is the only way. I also use mine at my house.

i have had rains for 4 years and have not used them yet.

If you're really going to ride rain, then the spare wheels.

I went with the spare wheels back when I started racing and used a bicycle to travel the pits. Four years later I now finally have a pit bike (and three spare sets of rims).

Re: Spare wheels or pit bike?

    I'd get the wheels

    ...and a pit bike

I got a pit bike (CRF 50) super cheap off a kid a couple years ago. It barely ran. I told my wife at the time it was cheap to buy and cheap to get running

...well one long winter later it had
    88cc kit
    high volume oil pump
    heavy duty clutch
    HD spoke rims
    raised seat
    two bros bars
    taller gooseneck
    high rev CDI
    ext. HD shifter
    ext. rear brake lever
    stiffer rear shock
solid front fork tubes w/ HD springs
    ext. swing arm
    new levers and cables
    rear hand brake
    rear stunt pegs
    new chain and alum. sprockets
    05 crf frame
    grips and bar ends
    new tires
    platform footpegs

I ended up moding the damn thing like it was a big bike Ton of fun though and great winter project

Racing in the rain is FUN! Racing on a wet, then dry, then wet, then dry line but wet, then drizzle, then dry, then wet....etc SUCKS!

That's because you're a girl and don't ride in the rain.

Noel, get the wheels, don't make me bitch slap you.

Well... this is exactly the opposite of what I expected.

I figured everyone would be all for adding another toy to the stable.

I DO understand the importance of having a spare set of wheels... But they aren't any fun...

When you're getting ready for a race and the sky opens up, they're plenty of fun. Not to mention the fun you'll have riding 'round on proper rain tires in the wet... it's amazing the grip they have!
