Yeah, My problem with the concept is frame geometry. A lightweight roadracer lives on cornerspeed and agility. It benefits from aggressive geometry and stiff swingarms. This bike has neither aggressive geometry nor a stiff swingarm. It will chatter like a motard and be harder to control because of the seating position.

I heard that the geometry was similar to a 250GP bike once you put the forks on them... and swing arm angle is in the ball park.. stiffness is a different issue though..

From my research... they are still playing with them to find working geometry.
If you go with a sport bike front end, the bike ends up being too rotated forward, resulting in a flat swingarm, and trail that's way off. The current school of thought is to shorten the front forks so you end up with a longer overall front end. New clamps get the trail in check, the swingarm is now borderline.
I really like the idea... if I ever get a 450 it'll likely be converted... but they need more sorting still.
In the mean time...

I want that bike sooooooo bad... I can almost afford it too which really hurts... Anyone wanna buy a hopped up CRF70? : )
Either way the concept of making em into *cheap* budget racers is out the window... they just don't work without major frame, clamp, etc. modifications. Not that I've ridden one, but a close friend who was a 250GP AMA pro and heavily involved in development programs in Spain for younger kids has been keeping tabs on it from the start. Also involved in USGPRU, you really need something like the Morwaki to do anything with, at which point you're well past $10k for a "starter" racebike. Might as well just stick with an SV at that point.
the first major company to build one of these with working geomentry and priced the same as an MX bike will make a fortune. look how many people are builing there own in the US now. they have always been popular overseas but more like DR650 in a RGV frame weirdness not converted dirtbikes.
