Car's overheatin... can't get my shit to the track & the fact that I pre-reged is just another kick in the teeth.
Think it's the thermostat.

Boo you!
If I wasn't working this weekend your bike could be in the back of my truck.

Petey - I'm not sure if its already too late, but....I had an older 3 series BMW where you could actually remove the thermostat entirely, the car would run cool and you wouldn't have any heat, but you got to where you were going.![]()
yeah, i had that kinda thing happen on my 87 325 a few years ago where the t-stat got stuck open... ran a little cool but it was fine... not the case here, my 5-er is overheating. I was able to limp it home last night at 2am by accelerating up to 70-75 then shutting the car off & coasting as far as i could... i'd pop the clutch around 40mph and do it all over again. It got me home & kept the needle below the 3/4 mark, but ya can't really do that w/ a trailer
Anyway, I was workin on it today & doing some research... I think the t-stat is fine... now i'm thinkin it's the water pump![]()

Right, so what I'm sayin is, take the f'n thermostat out entirely (if you can), and see if that is the problem.
You're gonna lose if you dont show.![]()
Boooo crappy german engineering!
They should call Production Twins what it really is, Shitty McBikefest. Rules for Participation: If your bike runs lower laptimes than a lawnmower, you are not eligibile for Shitty McBikefest. -Darrell

pretty sure it's not the t-stat... if it was, the coolant hoses would both be cold.... but the one going to the top of the radiator is hot, the one coming from the bottom is cold... but there isn't any blockage in the radiator, there's just no pressure to make it flow.... so I'm thinkin it's most likely the pump.Originally posted by highsider

When the water pump goes there's usually leakage and or noise from the bearings. Warm top hose, cold bottom hose likely is the thermostat. Thermostats stop most of the coolant flow, but it's not a water tight seal.Originally posted by OreoGitorio
