I own a 08 sv650.
I had a problem with lean fuel at Thompson a couple weeks ago, where for a split second i would lose power in 6th on the straight. So i purchased a PCIII USB to solve this problem. I was under the assumptions that there were maps readily available, but only found a handful for my bike and year, and none were for a Yoshimura exhasut with moded gearing 1 down in front 2 up in rear. I have a couple questions,
- Does anyone know of a post on this forum or others that links to an extended library of downloadable maps for an SV?
- Can i use maps for earlier years in the 2nd gen family with the correct mods?
- Can PCV maps be used on the PCIII USB?
Any info would be great, i know downloadable maps are not the best, but for the time being i am looking to avoid taking it to a dyno for custom mapping. I am located in Somerville.
Hey Mike,
For starters, i don't think gearing will have any affect on what map is best, so don't worry bout that.
Secondly, I think an '07 map would be fine as well. Maybe even single spark plug heads, too ('03-'06)
Third, I don't think you need a Yosh SPECIFIC map. As long as it's a map that has a slip-on (or full system, if that's what you have) in mind, I'm sure you'll be fine.
Ultimately, just find a map that's close enough and try it out. If you don't like it, try a different one. That's the beauty of Power Commanders... so simple to switch maps.
If you want to be picky, then you're going to have to pony up the dough for a custom map or fiddle with the software a bit yourself.

So, I just want to toss one other tidbit out there: If your bike is operating correctly, you shouldn't be so lean that you loose power in 6th momentarily unless you've SERIOUSLY altered it's breathing. A slipon and monkeying with the airbox will not accomplish that big a swing.
If you're going to invest in a PC, it's really worth it to get it custom mapped. But before you bother you need to make sure your bike is running correctly.
Yeah, good point.... almost said something about that myself. Symptoms sound strange to me.

I spoke with Chris? a mechanic/instructor at Fishtail at legnth about this and he was convinced it had to do with the air fuel ratio. It only happens on the track when i am approaching 10k rpms in top gear. When i refueled and had a full tank the problem stopped. It only happens in a quick second, but it is noticeable when it does happen. I also do realize that custom mapping is best and will get this done eventually. I will see how it feels when i upload the map. In any case i bought the bike with an aftermarket yosh and it cant hurt to install the PC.

Incredibly strange.
I constantly run my '06 damn near dry and haven't had issues.

-1/+2? Are you sure you weren't on the limiter? That's really low gearing
A good share of us SV riders use stock or +1 in the rear stock front.

Limiter is a possibility.
If you're only going to change one sprocket, putting the stock front sprocket back on would get you closer to stock gearing than putting the stock rear back on would.
It'll also require less of a chain adjustment.

Good call, will put the stock front back on. Should of done more research before install.
Eh, it happens.
Just know that your bike might feel a little more sluggish, mostly because you're not shifting as quickly. It MIGHT actually accelerate a tiny bit slower, but fewer gear changes will make the track seem less busy and might even net you slightly better lap times if you're into that kinda thing.![]()
